TI Malaysia Calls PKR For A Clean Election

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Transparency International - Malaysia (TI Malaysia) hopes the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) election will be conducted fairly, responsibly and free of money politics.
Its president, Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan said the calls made by TI Malaysia was to ensure that candidates would be elected based on their integrity, competency, and commitment to serve the people without the influence of money.
"The people are watching closely, therefore, if PKR stands for a clean, accountable and transparent governance, then all its candidates must walk the talk (must be consistent with their promises, words and actions) and refrain from money politicking," he said in a statement here on Monday.
TI Malaysia is a non-governmental organisation to counter corruption on a national and international level.
Low said the coming PKR party election that is scheduled in November would be closely watched by people who had an interest in the outcomes or the process as an indication as to whether PKR could be trusted to form a credible government.
The interest was not only on who was standing for what position but also on how the whole election process was being conducted, unfortunately, too many internal political party elections had been tainted by money politics, he said.
"Money politics is political corruption and it is the source of all corruption as it will not only undermine the democratic process of election but makes the candidates to be beholden to their funders and detrimental to the people," he said.
In a news report on a local daily, Sinar Harian on Monday, PKR vice-president Azmin Ali said that the direct involvement of thousands of members in choosing a candidate at the PKR election would not create any bribery or money politics.
According to Sinar Harian, Azmin is still leading the race compared to other PKR candidates in obtaining (35) nomination, followed by Central Leadership Council Member Datuk Zaid Ibrahim (19), Vice-President Mustaffa Kamil (10) while the party Strategy Director Tian Chua receives two nomination.

tunku : pkr party election will never be clean as it has anwar and his "buddies" as their leaders. don't forget it was anwar who introduce money politics in umno.he used money politics to be the deputy president of umno and now they will use it again to make sure azmin and several others wins.those who sees pkr stands for a clean, accountable and transparent governance are actually truly blind people.pkr is the mother of all corruptions.
