Khairy slams Utusan's support of Perkasa

Even as Umno and BN leaders distance themselves from Malay rights pressure group Perkasa, Malay-language daily Utusan Malaysia continues to support the group.
In today's edition, the Umno-owned broadsheet devoted an entire page to an assortment of stories defending the NGO, including a poll headlined 'Majority of Malays support Perkasa'.

In response, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar - one of the most vocal critics of Perkasa - launched a thinly-veiled attack on the daily on his Twitter account.
He tweeted that he “thinks a particular newspaper needs to be reminded who its owners are”.
“I'm advocate for reforms towards a free and responsible press but while in present paradigm, I can't accept editorial line of particular daily,” he said next.
Although Khairy did not name names, the statement was clearly aimed at Utusan.
He has repeatedly claimed that Umno is not in cahoots with Perkasa in any way.
Over the past week, Umno bigwigs including secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and supreme council member Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz have begun voicing criticism of Perkasa.
They claimed that its hardline views on Malay rights could alienate non-Malay voters in the next general election.
Utusan has backed Perkasa with several stories and its Sunday opinion columns have urged Umno to rethink its stand in rejecting Perkasa.
Among the most recent stories was one quoting the Perak government's information chief Hamdi Abu Bakar, who reportedly said that the Umno leaders' move to distance themselves from Perkasa is syok sendiri (self-serving).
Umno's stance has not deterred Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali and the 50,000 members that he claims to lead.
He has gone so far as to warn Umno, a party of 3.4 million members, that he can give “guidance” to Perkasa members on how to vote in the general election.

tunku : what's wrong with utusan supporting perkasa? if chinese and indians can have their ngo's why can't the malays? other races can have everything but not the malays.if the malays do someting than its racist but not others. where's the logic here? kj,nazri aziz and ku nan must be smart enough to differentiate between a political party and a ngo.perkasa is not a political party,it is only a ngo that uphold the malays right.kj the namewee production actor knows the fact that his days are numbered in umno.he's preparing to jump ship.that is why he's making stupid remarks all the time.this is from his tweeter "Khairykj Setuju dgn Nazri Aziz. Kalau anak jantan, IbAli patut daftar Perkasam sbg parti poltik, masuk gelanggang & lawan." this is not the level of a ketua pemuda.

It's about time that we have an NGO that fights for our rights, or at least reminds us of the spirit of the constitution in giving due recognition on the Malay rights.

I read with disgust when Nazri Aziz and KJ ( the leftover from the failed Pak Lah regime) rap Utusan for supporting PERKASA and not UMNO even though UMNO owns Utusan, Nazri even made a sarcastic remark as if Utusan want to bring back Tun to replace Najib. What a cheap remark from a cheap politician.

I myself supported UMNO for life but it hurts me when UMNO leaders are trying to gun down PERKASA and already they are looking for a scapegoat to blame for UMNO's failure.

UMNO is weak because the Malays are weak. They are now divided into 3 parties. BN is weak not just because of UMNO but because MCA, Gerakan and MIC themselves are weak due to the in-fighting within their parties.

MCA has a leader with a terrible personal record and are divided into two. MIC with a leader that no Indians want and these factors has contributed to the dwindling support of Barisan Nasional. But the question is does the BN downfall is entirely due to UMNO's? What have MCA and MIC done on their parts other than asking more for their own races at the expense of the Malays. Who is the racist parties here?

This is where the existence of PERKASA has given the Malays hope to voice out and to protect their rights under the Constitutions. PERKASA never ask for anything more than to defend and protect what was written under the Constitutions which UMNO, failed to do. I believe some of the Malays in PAS and PKR are supporting PERKASA as well. Thus for UMNO to alienate PERKASA is really a dumb decision.

UMNO is so scared that if they were to defend and protect the Malays, they will be labeled as racist and they fear that the non malays will not suport them. What guarantees that can assure them they will get the non malay support even after they give up the malay rights?

Worst still, do they really think all the Malays will still support them after giving way to the demand of the non Malays?

Just look at the recent by elections. Even with millions of ringgit being provided to the Chinese they still vote for the opposition. The Chinese voters are not loyal but opportunist. They know how to take advantage of the situations for their benefits and UMNO and BN especially is a sitting ducks and easily being played out. BN is so predictable and everybody is taking advantage of them. You play this game and forever the Chinese will never vote for you because if their vote is guaranteed they will get nothing. This is actually what the Malays are suffering..they get nothing because their votes are guaranteed.

Why fear to be called racist? DAP, MCA & MIC not racist? Everyone is racist in one form or another although they may not want to be seen as one. The formation of Malaysia was based on the understanding that each races will be represented by a party that formed a coalition and alliance that governed the country. The success of our nation being multi racial and multi cultural is the respect of each other races. You cannot take anything away from anybody and that understanding have to be respected for us to continuously living harmoniously as before.
