Government Mulls Blacklisting Main Contractors Who Are Poor Paymasters

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- The government is studying the possibility of blacklisting main contractors of government projects who do not pay sub-contractors on time, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan.
Such contractors might be barred from further bidding for government jobs, he said when delivering the keynote address at a convention on the management of government assets at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here today. The two-day convention was opened by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
"In this matter, it is civil servants who get blamed when in fact, the main contractor had been paid," he said.
Speaking to reporters later, he said he was proud of the commitment and dedication shown by the 1.27 million civil servants in the country.
"They deserve the praise for their role in the development we are enjoying in the country today," he said.
Mohd Sidek also thanked the media especially the Malay media and Bernama for the positive reports on the government's efforts to develop the country.

tunku : we applaud the government decision on blacklisting the main contractors who do not pay their sub-con on time. at the same time we want the government to show example to them by paying the main contractors on time too.we know that some main-con had the bad habit of not paying on time but most of them can't pay because the delay in payment from the government.some even have to wait 6 months to a year after they submit in their claims.when the government don't pay them on time, they too don't pay their sub-con on time.
