Umno needs to be exciting again: Muhyiddin

MANAMA (Bahrain): Umno needs to return the “wow” factor that used to make the public sit up, take notice and want to be part of the party, Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
Commenting on Umno’s Kuala Terengganu by-election loss, Muhyiddin said although Barisan Nasional and Umno had brought development to the country, it appeared to be insufficient.
“The people want radical improvements after what happened in the last election. We must be able to do something that would attract the public.”
Muhyiddin said change within Umno and Barisan had to happen as quickly as possible or they would lose the next general election.
“Incoming Umno president Datuk Seri Najib will have to perform politicalsurgery,” he said to reporters on the sidelines of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s official visit to Bahrain.
Muhyiddin said there was a need to reinvent and not just rebrand.
“This will be a big exercise because Barisan is big. How to change? It is not just at the top and has to filter all the way down.”
Muhyiddin although analysis could be made about the local conditions that caused Barisan and Umno to be defeated in Kuala Terengganu, there was a need to look at the bigger picture.
“Now, what it more important is what the voter thinks of us and not what we think about them. Their expectations have changed.
“The party cannot survive with temporary setbacks. The people will think Umno’s talk is just rhetoric and no action,” he said.
Muhyiddin said a new format, spirit and approach was needed for Barisan and that everyone had to be concerned as it was a serious message sent out by voters.
“Umno has not changed since the March general election. Plans made after the big loss have not been operationalised all the way down.”

not.UMNO aint just need to be exciting but they need to be senseful again.and not to mentioned the former boss of UMNO should have just keep his mouth shit and let the current leader to do his job.22 years is already enough for him to rule the country.he's no longer one of UMNO member and so just because he used to be the boss doesnt he can act like one now.

we all do cherish his contribution towards our country but enough is enough.we dont hear former president Clinton talks s^&t about Bush.

To look at it in a wider perspective, MIC, Gerakan and MCA too must initiate serious reforms. In comparison with UMNO, they suffered much greater losses and for them to gain back the support from the non-malays would be an uphill task.
In the old days, UMNO can easily rely on the non-Malay voters to deliver, especially in crucial mixed seats. But sadly, that is not the case anymore. There must be a serious change from the top.

pancaroba,

you are in the group of denial syndrome. what tun had said is for the good of umno.it is very kurang ajar of you to say to tun as a shit mouth.melayu mudah lupa.
it is kj and his father in law who has shit mouth and shit attitude that make what umno is today.do not put the blame to others when your cronies are the one who is destroying the country.

truth,
let's face it.Pak Lah inherit Malaysia from Mahathir.as far as i'm concerned, did we ever heard any former PM to critisize Mahathir during his 22 years of service to the country?

i'm sure Pak Lah and Mahathir have their own respective way of doing things.but it just do damn obvious that Mahathir wanted Pak Lah to get out of the govt asap.

keep in mind also that Mahathir also have his own cronies.so i guess the attempt to kick out Pak Lah also is the attempt to save his cronies as well :)
