KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should not be blamed for the Barisan Nasional (BN) defeat in the Kuala Terengganu by-election."Some voters did not support BN because they do not like the candidate," he said when asked to comment on polls where Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut from Pas beat BN's Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh by 2,631 votes yesterday.
Speaking to reporters after launching the Save Palestinians Campaign organised by the Coalition of Malaysian NGOs at the Bangsar Sports Complex here today, Dr Mahathir said the voters had to choose between the BN candidate and Pas' and they finally picked the Pas candidate.
"They also do not like Pas but they were forced to choose," he said.
Najib who is BN deputy chairman led the coalition's election machinery.
He warned that Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is due to take the top job in March, must not repeat the mistakes of Abdullah, who voters punished in last year's general elections for failing to introduce promised anti-graft reforms.
"I think Najib is not to be blamed for (the by-election loss) but if he continues to elect or support corrupt leaders then I think he will lose the next general election," Mahathir said.
"Leaders who are discredited, who are involved with corruption, are still being chosen as candidates," he said, without naming names.
"If they want to win, get rid of these people."
tunku : everyone knew that the candidate was not the best and right choice for P36 but he is still chosen as he is the best candidate for pak lah and kj, not umno and bn.the moment wan farid's name announced as the candidates lots of people knew it that bn will lose this by election but still hoping for some magic.pak lah and kj will put umno and bn in a situation that umno and bn members had never think off.poor najib, he will need to work 24/7 because of this two people.

sebenarnya kalai diletak calon mana-mana sekalipun... sebenarnya kalai diletak calon mana-mana sekalipun,belum tentu lagi BN akan menang juga.Mahathir tak perlulah hendak salahkan Pak Lah.dia pasti tahu senario politik kini di mana pembangkang sedang hari demi hari mendapat tempat di hati masayarakat.walaupun penyokong UMNO/BN masih ramai,namun mereka harus rasa tergugat dengan sokongan yang diterima PR.

Mahathir senang-senang je tuding jari pada Pak Lah. Ini bukan masa nak tuding-tuding jari menuduh individu tertentu bersalah atau tidak. Kenapa bila dah kalah, masa itulah nak menyalahkan orang lain. Bukan begitu caranya. Kalau betul Mahathir profesional, beliau tak perlu salahkan Pak Lah secara keseluruhan. Kerana pada masa Mahathir menjadi Presiden UMNO pun, bukannya bagus sangat..

sebab mahathir baguslah, bn sentiasa menang 2/3 semasa pemerintahannya, bukan macam pak lah lembab, yg merosakkan umno dan bn.dah memang sebab pak lah, takkan nak kata kat pak hang kot.
