MCA to start Buy Malaysia Campaign

BIDOR: The MCA will initiate a Buy Malaysia Campaign in the hopes of cushioning the country from the effects of the global economic downturn.
Party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said the party was willing and ready to join hands with industries to spearhead the campaign.
“Jobs may be saved and salvaged through the campaign,” he told reporters after the swearing-in ceremony of the new Tanjung Malim MCA division committee members on Sunday in Bidor, about 70km from Ipoh.
Ong, who is also Transport Minister, added that the party was now reaching out to the community and the entrepreneurs to prepare Malaysians for the campaign.
“We cannot single-handedly carry out the campaign. We need to involve entrepreneurs and prepare the public for the campaign,” he added.
On another matter, Ong called on party leaders to have an open door policy to attract new blood to join the party.
“If we do not attract more people to join the party, it is the party’s loss,” he added.
Warning that the party must change or the people’s confidence in the party might be affected, Ong said the MCA needed to have a genuine and sincere transformation.
“From my visits around the country and dialogues with members, I find members want the party transformation process to be sped up,” he added.
Earlier in his speech, Ong called on the state MCA liaison committee chairmen in the five Pakatan Rakyat controlled states to realise that they were no longer heading the state administration.
“It is time for you to become effective watchdogs,” he added.
He also called on the chairmen to come up with plans on how to wrest back the state from PKR.
“Do not wait until the next election to come up with the plan,” he said.
