KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25 (Bernama) -- For the seventh time, Mercy Malaysia will deploy a team of medical experts to ensure a continuous shipment of medical aid to the Gaza strip.
The team comprising five medical experts, including a psychiatrist and a psychologist, will depart to Egypt tomorrow night before cossing into Gaza to join other medical teams.
The teams are expected to return to Kuala Lumpur on Feb 9.
"The psychiatrist and psychologist in the team will be looking at possibilities to start psychological intervention and mental health support programmes," said its acting president, Dr Ahmad Faizal Perdaus, in a statement here, Sunday.
He said the sixth medical team had found that most health infrastructure and facilities in Gaza were severely damaged.
To date -- since the conflict in Gaza began on Dec 27 and escalated for three weeks -- Mercy Malaysia had sent medical supplies and medicines worth USD400,000. (USD1 = RM3.62)
Dr Ahmad Faizal said Mercy Malaysia would consider procuring more sophisticated medical and surgical equipments to meet the demand for such equipments.
The public can continue to donate to the Palestine Relief Fund through Mercy Malaysia.
