KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- PAS candidate Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut today won the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat by-election with a majority of 2,631 votes.Mohd Abdul Wahid, 52, garnered 32,883 votes, while Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh obtained 30,252 votes.
Independent candidate Azharudin Mamat @ Adam received only 193 votes and lost his deposit.
The by-election results were announced by returning officer Wan Mustafa Wan Hassan at Stadium Negeri tonight.
The Kuala Terengganu constituency has 80,229 registered voters, including 1,302 postal voters.
The voter turn-out today was 63,993 or 79.9 per cent of those eligible to vote in the by-election.
The by-election was held following the death of Deputy Education Minister
Datuk Razali Ismail from heart attack while playing badminton at Institut Aminudin Baki, Genting Highlands on Nov 28, 2008.
In the last general election in March last year, Razali defeated Mohamad Sabu from PAS and independent candidate Maimun Yusuf with a 628-vote majority.
Mohd Abdul Wahid is also the assemblyman for Wakaf Mempelam, one of the four state seats in the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary constituency.
The other three seats are Bandar, Ladang and Batu Burok.

may be tomorrow you loves one dies, never laught at others.
it's just not about the candidate.BN could have put any other candidate but the result perhaps was just the same.
there are few other reason on why BN didnt made it at KT.from what i know,the state UMNO there are not working together as a unit.it was the UMNO members from other states that work harder than the Terengganu UMNO.this is perhaps because the quarrel between the new MB and the later MB.
banyak faktot yang membuatkan BN kalah.tapi kalau dilihat dari sudut lain,maknanya SPR dan BN tak berpakat untuk bagi BN menang sebab PAS yang menang!.jadi disebabkan PAS yang menang maka isu pengundi hantu "lenyap" begitu sahaja!.
mungkin calon BN kali ini tak kuat atau tidak terlalu menonjol.tapi ada banyak lagi sebab yang menyebabkan BN kalah.tentang hudud pula,itu satu sebab yang kecil.perbalahan dalam UMNO juga punca BN boleh kalah.
