Anwar plans a 'better budget'

PETALING JAYA: PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim plans to introduce a "better budget" following Pakatan Rakyat's Sept 16 takeover plan, which he says has not been derailed.
Anwar, who unveiled PKR's 2009 budget and economic policy on Tuesday, said he would review the Government's Budget 2009 and present one that promoted economic growth, equal wealth distribution, lower taxes and an open tender for government contracts.
"All government contracts must also be tendered in an open, competitive and transparent manner to reduce expenditure and prevent certain parties such as cronies from benefiting.
"I will use my eight years prior experience as finance minister to craft the budget in a more responsible and resilient manner," he said Tuesday during a press conference at the party headquarters here.
Among measures he outlined were ways to stimulate local and foreign investment, reduce the 4.8% deficit of the gross domestic product, reduce fuel prices and give tax rebates as a business incentive.
Others include curbing public expenditure on mega projects and reforming the system of awarding Approved Permits.
The position of Malays and bumiputras, he said, would not be compromised but added that an affirmative policy would be in place to help the poor regardless of race.
Anwar said the fasting month had not changed Pakatan's Sept 16 plans and said he had met with some Barisan Nasional MPs from Sabah, Sarawak and the peninsula recently.
"It (fasting month) is not a problem. Parliament is only on leave. It is still there. Fourteen days is a long time. Even Winston Churchill said seven days in politics is a long time," he added.
Anwar also denied rumours that he went to Istana Negara Tuesday to present 30 names to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong but cheekily added: "Not yet".
Describing the Government's Budget 2009 as "illusionary", Anwar said it failed to address key issues such as corruption, national unity and improving living standards.

tunku : well we don't want anwar just to plan but to provide us his version of budget first before he is thinking of taking over the government. i admit that the government budget 2009 is not perfect but we want to know what's anwar budget will be. talking about government contracts must also be tendered in an open, competitive and transparent manner to reduce expenditure and prevent certain parties such as cronies from benefiting, it was he who gave direct negotiation project to his cronies when he was the finance minister. he is the one who made money politics a must in umno. the list goes on.anyway we hope anwar could give us his version of budget soon because after this he'll be busy with the court case. do you believe that the government mps will jump into a ship where the admiral might end up in prison?

Well, let me guess,
1) Oil price to be brought down to old price of RM1.92.
2) Certain class of people will be given some cash money. Not saying that this is not good. But give fish to a person, he will eat for a day, teach a person how to fish, he could fish until Singapore reclaim the sea.
3) Open tender which mean you have the money, i give u the project. So the wealth is equally distributed among the riches.
4) Lower taxes. Low income people wouldn't benefit from this more. Riches can the gold, poor got the crumbs.

Anyway, giving him benefit of a doubt. I really wanted to see how he can improve the Budget 2009 which I myself find a bit on a 'wee' side. You kipas me, I kipas u back.

it's easier said than done.Anwar said he wanted to provide us his version of budget but still somehow i dont think it's gonna be a perfect budget.

Anwar is acting like a school kid who has just got his first present in years. He's being too overly exicited about his new found post and his recent victory in PP.
Don't be too arrogant about it Mr. Anwar. You are planning to do a lot of things and so far I didn't see any of it materialized.
Don't waste your time and energy planning for populist moves, use it to benefit the rakyat.

Anwar's psychological warfare has a profound effect on UMNO and the party getting weaker by the hour.
Whether PR will or will not form a new govt does not matter but UMNO is losing it's grip rapidly.
UMNO never had any effective strategy to contain Anwar despite all resources available to them.
Dolah and Najib ineffective leadership has made Anwar a better choice.
