Zahid Wants To Gauge Support Before Deciding On Vice-Presidency

BANGI, April 10 (Bernama) -- Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will gauge support from the grassroots before deciding whether to contest one of the three Umno vice-presidents' posts.
"I want to see the support first. There is still a lot of time. I don't want to crash into the mountain as it is a high post," he told reporters after launching the Tabung Haji (TAHA) Club here Thursday.
Zahid said he would be depending on support from friends within the party and the grassroots before making a decision.
The Minister in the Prime Ministers Department, however, said the contest was not as important as trying to resolve problems besieging Umno.
"Let us put the contest aside. We must first put the party right. We have to get over the branch and divisional meetings first and only then can we make that decision," he added.
The Bagan Datoh Member of Parliament has been Umno Supreme Council member since 2000.
The incumbent Umno vice-presidents are International Trade and Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Mohd Ali Rustam. The other seat became vacant when Tan Sri Isa Samad was suspended by the Umno Disciplinary Board for dabbling in money politics.

tunku : zahid as vice president,NO WAY.if umno want to survive, this is not the right candidate to be among the highest post in umno.this man can turn 360 degree anytime.once he was the hatchet man of anwar.
