IDR Is Now Iskandar Malaysia
JOHOR BAHARU, April 11 (Bernama) -- The Iskandar Development Region (IDR), the economic development corridor in southern Peninsular Malaysia, has been renamed Iskandar Malaysia under a rebranding exercise.
The decision to change the name was made at the fourth board meeting of the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) here Friday.
"We have decided to give a new name to the IDR. The new name will be Iskandar Malaysia," said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the joint chairman of IRDA, after the meeting.
The other joint chairman of IRDA, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, also attended the meeting.
Iskandar Malaysia, named after the Sultan of Johor, will be used now instead of "Wilayah Pembangunan Iskandar" (the Malay translation of Iskandar Development Region) to prevent confusion among investors, Abdullah said.
He also said that the IRDA would remain the authority to run the corridor, spread over an area of 2,217 sq km or double the size of Singapore.
