Anwar ‘not on fishing trip’ to East Malaysia

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be in Sabah and Sarawak from Wednesday onwards but party officials say he is not on a “fishing” trip to woo Barisan Nasional MPs.
PKR vice president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said Anwar was making his first visit to Sabah and Sarawak after the March 8 general election. He, however, does not anticipate any crossover of MPs taking place.
“The visit is not a fishing trip but if there are any fishes around we welcome them,” he told reporters when asked if Anwar’s visit had anything to do with PKR’s much-talked about crossing over of Barisan MPs.
“As far as we are concerned, the winds are still blowing and this thing is likely to happen after his (Anwar) visit,” said Dr Jeffrey, who is PKR’s steering committee chairman for Sabah and Sarawak.
He, however, declined to elaborate on this, saying he had to respect the wishes of the Barisan leaders who had met him.
“I will tell you Sabah is likely to be the first to move,” he said, adding that the MPs were hoping to see a federal government that has a new approach towards Sabah, on issues ranging from illegal immigrants to oil royalty.
Dr Jeffrey said that during the visit, Anwar would address a gathering on Wednesday night at the Hongkod Koissan cultural centre.
"He will also endorse PKR’s commitment towards the Tambunan Declaration, which calls for greater state rights, among others," he added.
Anwar is scheduled to be in Kuching on Thursday.

Sabah BN MPs Of High Integrity - Bung Moktar

SANDAKAN, April 21 (Bernama) -- Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) members of parliament (MPs) have high integrity and will not be easily enticed by offers to jump ship, BN Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) deputy chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin said Monday.
"They (opposition parties) should not underestimate Sabah BN MPs by thinking that we can be easily tempted with offers to join Pakatan Rakyat (People's Alliance).
"We are firmly behind BN and it is better that they forget their intention," he said when commenting on Sabah and Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) steering committee chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan's remarks that the alliance welcomed BN MPs who wanted to cross over.
Jeffery was reported as saying Sunday that PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's visit to Sabah and Sarawak this week was not to entice BN MPs to join Pakatan Rakyat but they were welcome if they wanted to do so.
Bung Moktar who is also Kinabatangan MP said Sabah and Sarawak BN MPs were not "fish" which could be lured with baits.

tunku : if not for "fishing trip" you think he will waste his time? why he did not entertain sabah's demand when he was the finance minister? he had declined sabah demands when he was in power.now that he is with the opposition he is promising moon and stars.maybe he wants to turn sabah into a jewish state.

Not that I support Anwar, but in my opinion, Anwar was never in "power" when he was the Finance Minister or DPM because the one in "power" was Dr M.
