DPM: No sign of any crossover
SUBANG JAYA: Barisan Nasional has no evidence or indication “at the moment” that any of its MPs want to cross over to the opposition, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the ruling coalition was watching the situation “very closely.”
“We understand that it could be gamesmanship, but we can’t take things for granted either,” he told reporters yesterday after an Umno management committee meeting with Selangor Umno at a hotel here.
To a question that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has forged the Pakatan Rakyat coalition, appeared extremely confident of Barisan crossovers and being able to form a new Federal Government, Najib said: “That’s politics. You can’t blame him for that.”
On Monday, Anwar, who became eligible to stand for public office after a five-year ban, claimed that he already had enough MPs to topple the Barisan Federal Government but that he was waiting for a more “comfortable” majority.
At present, Barisan has 140 MPs against Pakatan Rakyat’s 82. Pakatan Rakyat needs 30 more seats from Barisan to topple the current Federal Government.
Asked whether Barisan would call for snap elections if the ruling coalition was in danger of collapsing due to crossovers, Najib said that was one possibility.
“We will cross the bridge when we come to it. We are not in that crisis in the sense that we are going to be toppled anytime. I don’t believe that’s the case,” he said.
tunku : anwar is just playing games to creat panic among the bn members.it's easier to get 8 mp's than getting 30 mp's . najib said there is no sign of any crossover. i don't think that they will give any sign, they'll just jump and announce.
