Pas open to disgruntled Umno members: Nik Aziz

Pas will be open to offers from any disgruntled Umno members, including Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, to either make a pact or join the Islamic-based party, said Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat said today.
Pacts made for political reasons are allowed in Islam but Umno members who wish to join Pas would have to undergo a “cooling period” encompassing several years to enable them to understand the party's struggle.
"Let them give talks at our ceramah for a couple of years first then they can come in as our members. They can't just join us as we are not like a garbage can. Political pacts are different...joining Pas is different. In Islam, there is a specific method that we must follow," he said after meeting a group from CNMC Goldmine Limited from China. The company is due to start a gold mining venture in Sokor, Tanah Merah soon.
Nik Aziz, who is the Pas spiritual advisor, said the party's success in recapturing the state in 1990 was due to the political pact it made with the now-defunct Umno splinter party - Semangat 46 helmed by Razaleigh.
Although the pact eventually disintegrated following Semangat 46 members to rejoin Umno, he said the decision was made together. "One of the reasons why we won Kelantan was because the cooperation with Semangat 46. Although they left us after that, it was their decision. We did not chase them away, we did not push them away. Semangat 46 wanted out," he said.
Nik Aziz said the Pakatan Rakyat alliance with Parti Keadilan Rakyat and DAP was to streamline the various views in administering the five states under its wings to avoid misunderstanding.
On the controversy over the RM100 million modern pig farming project in Selangor, Nik Aziz felt the issue should not be blown out of proportion as Islam allows non-Muslims to continue to eat pork and consume alcohol.
"In Kelantan, we allow shops selling pork and alcohol as long as the business did not disturb others. If Selangor wants to approve the project, that is their right,” he said.

tunku : nik aziz is not spiritual leader anymore i guess.pas today had changed tremendously from islamic to secular base which they have been accusing umno all these while. they used to label umno as infidel because umno having pact with non muslims and now they are doing the same.i beg nik aziz and pas to accept pak lah as their new member after all pak lah is 'cucu ulamak'.

Tunku, you seems to lack the understanding about Islam. Islam does not forbid a non muslim to eat pork nor for them to drink alcohol. Hence, by agreeing with the 100 million pig project does not made PAS secular. After all, dirty pig farms have already existed in many states for age, particularly in Negeri Sembilan.

What the project is all about is to change the farming methodology into a clean system that would reduced the risk of environmental pollution. I think the unhappiness express thus far, is because of the lack of understanding about what the project is about.
