The return of Si Lembik.

Abdullah hits out at his critics

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has struck back by hitting out at Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for their criticism of his leadership.
Stressing that he was not a lembik (soft) Prime Minister, Abdullah said there were many things that were not right in the previous Prime Minister’s reign, citing the 1987 Operasi Lalang crackdown, the erosion of confidence in the judiciary and lack of freedom in the media as examples.
He also said Umno was deregistered under Dr Mahathir’s leadership (in 1988) “but we never asked him to step down”.
“There is no stopping his slew of accusations. He claims there is no freedom of media. Does he not remember that during his time, he asked the media to ‘block out’ stories and photos of (former Prime Minister) Tun Hussein Onn and not give coverage to certain people?
“As for Operasi Lalang, don’t forget who’s responsible,” he said, in reference to the 1987 crackdown in which over 100 people were arrested under the Internal Security Act for purportedly causing racial tension and posing a threat to national security.
On the judiciary, Abdullah said the problems did not start during his era.
“Many countries do not have confidence in our judiciary. And when there are differences between our countries, they do not want to refer the matter to a Malaysian court.
“They would rather take it to a court in Singapore, Hong Kong or Australia so I thought I had to do something about it to restore confidence because the people are hoping for reforms in the judiciary,” he said, in response to people being upset over what had been disclosed about the state of the judiciary during the Royal Commission of Inquiry hearing on the Lingam videoclip.
Abdullah, who is the Umno president, was speaking to reporters after giving a briefing to Umno grassroots leaders at Putra World Trade Centre yesterday over the party’s performance in the general election.
He also denied accusations that he listened to son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin, instead of his Cabinet and Umno supreme council members in making decisions.
“It is as if my Cabinet members are all stupid and only Khairy is the intelligent one!” he said, brushing aside claims that he was surrounded by yes-men.
He also lashed out at Dr Mahathir for saying that Barisan Nasional had too strong a victory in the 2004 general election and that there should be a stronger opposition in power, adding that the former leader had in fact helped the opposition win more seats.
To a question, he said such remarks could destroy Umno as the former leader still had strength.
“But strength can be misused,” he added.
He hoped Dr Mahathir would lay off criticism and “give us a chance to do what is best for the party and the Government”.
On Razaleigh’s recent open criticism of his leadership, Abdullah said the Gua Musang MP should “cermin diri” (take a good look at himself) .
“He was the reason Barisan lost Kelantan to PAS in the first place,” he said, adding that the Kelantan leader had done nothing to win the state back.
Following the 1987 Team A vs Team B fight in Umno when Razaleigh took on Dr Mahathir for the party presidency and lost and the subsequent deregistration of the party, Razaleigh went on to form Parti Melayu Semangat 46.
In the 1990 general election, Semangat 46 joined forces with PAS and managed to wrest Kelantan from Barisan.
And since then, Barisan has not been able to win it back. Razaleigh in the meantime disbanded Semangat and rejoined Umno.
On former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who was sacked from the party in 1998 and was trying to make a political comeback, Abdullah said he (Anwar) saw himself as “the leader-in-waiting”.
“He can wait but I’m the leader today!” he stressed.
He also pointed out that when Anwar was the country’s number two he (Anwar) too tried to control the media in terms of what came out on TV and in print.
“Although he was the deputy prime minister, he was already acting as the alternative leader to Dr Mahathir,” he said.
Calling on all members to close ranks, Abdullah said working together was the most important thing.
“I cannot accept an Umno that is quarrelling among itself at this point of time as the agenda for the people should be implemented as soon as possible,” he said.

PM blames loss of Kedah and Perak on Umno members

KUALA LUMPUR: Sabotage by Umno members caused Barisan Nasional to lose Perak and Kedah to the Opposition, said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
The party president and Prime Minister said acts of sabotage had taken place in 14 parliamentary and 22 state constituencies in these two states during the March general election.
“The act of sabotage has already taken place. If not for it, we would not have lost the two-thirds majority and two state governments. We would not have lost Perak and Kedah if not for the act by our own party members,” he told reporters after a closed-door briefing session with about 1,000 Umno grassroots leaders at the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday.
“I explained to party members that we could have won 14 parliamentary constituencies which are ‘white’ areas. Similarly, based on the party’s analysis and information, actually we could have won 22 state constituencies, but the sabotage took place. This led to us to losing two state governments. This is truly regrettable.”
Abdullah said disciplinary action would be taken against the saboteurs.
Asked why the act of sabotage had taken place and what kind of action would be taken against the saboteurs, Abdullah said: “It is a matter for the party’s disciplinary committee. Leave it to the committee to decide.”
He declined to elaborate, saying that he would present the matter to the committee.
“There is no need for me to give the details before the committee receives the report,” he said.
Abdullah said he was prepared to go to the ground to meet party leaders and explain to them the factors contributing to Barisan’s dismal performance in the elections.
“I have started by going to Sawarak to listen to issues that party members want to raise and I will go to Sabah on Monday (today),” he said, adding that his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would meet party leaders followed by party management committee members.
On when he would meet grassroots members, he said: “Let’s do it one at a time.”
Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib said sabotage was one of the issues emphasised by the party president and the party would carry out investigations against those involved.
Asked on who were behind the sabotage, Muhammad said: “One example is those who were dropped and later did not support the nominated candidate and told voters to back the Opposition.”
On what type of disciplinary action could possibly be taken against the culprits, he said: “That will be left to the disciplinary committee. It’s for them to study, investigate and make recommendations.”
He said there was no time frame given to the committee to take action against those involved.

tunku : blaming everyone except himself and his son in-law. pf course son in-law is a sacred one.
on tun dr mahathir, si lembik said that no one asked dr mahathir to resign when umno was deregistered.well si lembik, it was not the fault of dr mahathir, it was tengku razaleigh and his team b which includes you who had made umno deregistered in 1988.
let say that dr mahathir did black out all the tun hussein onn's news when he was the pm, now are you telling us that you are doing that too?
you blamed Ku Li for umno lost in kelantan. What position does Ku Li hold in umno kelantan? he is not state liaison chief,he is just a division chief.Blame you hatchet man in kelantan and also your son in-law who heads the youth campaign in kelantan.
Regarding kedah and perak again you blamed other but not you.
so the return of si lembik is just to blame others.

“As for Operasi Lalang, don’t forget who’s responsible,” he said, in reference to the 1987 crackdown in"

Pak lah is talking rot when he mentioned about ops lalang. He should ask Najib. He was one of the actors that lead to ops lalang. Op lalang , If I cld remember, was purely police ops, not MKN , not JPM . I think at that time , Tan Sri Rahim Nor was the Director of Sp Branch. He was the man who decided who to arrest because of the racial threat looming the nation, NOT Mahathir!!! Probably Pak lah was sleeping at that time. It was police's decision . Pak lah shld read white paper ie Kertas perintah 14 tahun 1988 submitted to both houses of parliment entitled " towards Preserving National Security". I think it was prepared by Tan Sri Rahim Nor.It was purely Special Branch do and PM, then also minister of home affairs, was only informed when the arrestees were recomended to be detained further under sec 8 of ISA!! I hope tingkat 4 buat research dulu sebelum memberi nesihat kpd pak lah untuk menggunakan isu ops lalang nak hentam TDM!! Mungkin bekas2 (mantan2) Director of SB bolih beri ulasan dalam hal ini. You all are duty-bound to explain this to the rakyat!!! Sekali lagi pak berbohong dihadapan khalayak ramai!!!

"UMNO was deregistered under Dr. Mahathir's leadership..."

The deregistration was not Mahathir's doing but the group from team B which Abdullah was one of the member!

On the TigerBank, no decision can be made overnight or in one week. Talk to the advisor BNP and to you will know that the tender process started even when the Senator Minister was still the bank's CEO. So ask that Senator Minister why in the first place it started.

How I will comment on this is that why CIMB needs to merge its 2 Indonesian banks (because of the single presence policy)? Can't it sell one of them, at reasonable price, to Maybank? Aren't CIMB and Maybank owned by the people (EPF / PNB)?

Perhaps the Senator Minister should now answer this question.
