Such a great forum held the past three days that is The Perdana Global Peace Forum and our mainstream media gave just about 30% coverage. Dont lick the ruler of the day to much till you put your ethics in thrash can.This is not about Tun Dr Mahathir's thing , this is global issue, we want to make war as a crime, killing people doesn't solve things. This forum should get at least 2-3 pages in our newspaper and life coverage in the electronic media but its so sad that we missed everything. We are trying to make the world understand this fight against war but our very own people ( mostly ) doesnt even know what is going on. I hope that our media industry be more responsible and not just licking up the boss of the day. You should be shame of yourself.

Ali Shalal The Prisoner Of Abu Gharib

American journalists who doubted Ali Shalal (picture below) as the "Prisoner in the Hood" -- standing on a box, electrical wires attached to his outstretched arms, electrocuted thrice -- should have come listen to his gripping testimony at the PGPO "Criminalising War" conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. Ask him some probing questions, if necessary, but the American atrocities in Abu Ghraib remain a war crime story to be told and re-told.

Significantly, Ali Shalal chose to speak from a text sworn under Malaysia's Statutory Declaration Act 1960, before a Commissioner for Oaths in Kuala Lumpur.

In the statutory declaration, he used the name entered in his Iraqi passport: Abbas Z. Abid.

The audience that filled Dewan Merdeka to the brinks held their breath listening to Ali Shalal, who gave a live testimony of torture as a direct-hit victim while he was custody in the infamous Aby Ghraib prison, in the US-occupied Iraq.

His statutory declaration will be deposited with the War Crimes Commission as one of the petitions from War Crime Victims. Subsequently, Ali Shalal's petition is expected to be forwarded for deliberation by the War Crimes Tribunal, which will begin its preliminary deliberation later in the afternoon.

When the War Crimes Commission sits for the preliminary proceedings at 9.00am this morning , War Crimes victims will present their petitions and give their witnesses' accounts.

They include war crimes victims from the war in Afghanistan aka The Global War on Terror; war in Iraq including the Fallujah Massacre; war in Lebanon, and war in Palestine.

New York Times retracted story

March 11 last year, The New York Times ran a dramatic front-page story that matched the infamous photo: the chilling shot of an Abu Ghraib prisoner, hooded, standing on a box, electrical wires attached to his outstretched arms.

The "Prisoner in the Hood" was identified by the NY Times as Ali Shalal Qaissi.

However, the story was challenged by online magazine Salon. On March 18, the NY Times acknowledged that its story was flat wrong, and the paper admitted that the prisoner in the photograph was not Qaissi, who has reportedly admitted to the falsehood.

In an editor's note, the NY Times said "the Times did not adequately research Mr. Qaissi's insistence that he was the man in the photograph" and "should have been more persistent in seeking comment from the military.

And the story died instantly in America's media.

The matter was raised at the pre-Conference press briefing on Sunday, to which Dr Mahathir, chairman of PGPO, answered: "The US military will naturally deny everything because you would not know who is behind the hood. But we believe that Ali Shalal is the man behind the hood that you saw in the picture."

The torture

When Ali Shalal took the podium yesterday, he displayed several video clips of the tortures in Abu Ghraib, laid with soundtracks of Iraqi music. In the dark, I could figure out he was wearing an academic's suit, but complete with a songkok that's typically Malaysian. The session's moderator, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, later confirmed what I had guessed. It was indeed a songkok.


Then he began to speak, albeit in a monotonous, emotionless tone. What can you expect from a person who went through hell several times, only to tell the world his first-hand account of war crimes.

I could understand his first sentence in Arabic. "Ana ALI SH. ABBAS". He was saying he is Ali Sh. Abbas alias Ali Shalal, 45, who is now residing in Amman, Jordan.

Despite Ali's monotone articulated through his native language, and the time-lapse the slipped while I tried to catch what he meant, I felt chills up my spine. It was human torture of the sadistic kind.

These are some images I took as I sat on the floor listening to him by reading the English translation of his testimony, which was actually his Statutory Declaration. Quote:


In the morning, an Israeli stood in front of me and took the bag from my head and told me in Arabic that he was an Israeli (who) had interrogated and tortured detainees in Palestine.




Worse was to come. Ali was later electrocuted on three separate occasions. On the first two sessions, he was electrocuted twice, each time lasting a few minutes. And on the last session, as he was being electrocuted, he accidentally bit his tongue and was bleeding from the mouth.




There wasn't mercy, even from doctors. Quote:


The doctor just poured some water u=into my mouth and used his feet to force open my mouth. He then remarked: "There is nothing serious, continue!" Then he left the room. However, theguard stopped the electrocution as I was bleeding profusely from my mouth and blood was all over my blanket and body. But they continue to beat me. After some time, they stopped beating me and put me back to my cell.

Throughout the time of my torture, the interrogators would take photographs.


After that incident, Ali was left alone in his cell for 49 days, and the interrogators stopped torturing him. Quote:


I was released in the beginning of March 2004. I was put into a truck and taken to a highway and then thrown out. A passing car stopped and took me home.

All these, because Ali was arrested by the American troops on October 13, 2003 while he was going to a prayer in the mosque of Al-Amraya, and later transferred to Abu Ghraib prison.

All these, because Ali had refused to confess to his captor's question whether he was a Sunni or Shia Muslim.

All that Ali was willing to answer was that he was an Iraqi Muslim, an answer that his captors refused to accept. He was instead charged for the following "offence", as contained in paragraph 11 of the Statutory Declaration:


a ) That Ali was anti-Zionist and Anti-Semitic
b ) He supported the resistance
c ) He instigated the people to oppose the occupation
d ) that he knew the location of Osama bin Laden

The captors refused to considered his plea that he was a disabled person and had an injured hand. Instead, the interrogators accused him of injuring his hand while attacking the American soldiers.

Life reclaimed

Now that Ali has reclaimed his life, he vowed to do something good for his countrymen who went through the same fate. He has decided to to establish an association to assist all torture victims, with the help of 12 other tortured victims.


At the end of his presentation, Ali told this to the audience who were still enthralled by his gory, gripping account:


I feel very sad that I have to remember and relive this horrible experience again and again, and I hope that the Malaysian people will answer our call for help. God willing.

Fortunately, I could still grasp some Arabic words which I learned during my trip to Tunisia in 2005. Ali ended his presentation with 'Shukran Malaysia' (Thank you, Malaysia).


It was a standing ovation... amidst revelation by Tun Hasmah that it wasn't really an easy task getting Ali into Malaysia to speak.


In a way, Ali Shalal is a lucky war victim. His torture and misery were made enduring the world over only because of media snafu in the USA. There are a lot more silent, but no less inhuman, war crimes stories unheard and unspoken of elsewhere, which will be unending so long as warmongers and war criminals remain roaming free on this earth.

The job cut out for the War Crimes Tribunal has just begun.

The reason behind Gulf War is because of China

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- The United States of America attacked Iraq not only for its oil, but also to control the flow of the valuable commodity widely used in the east, a renowned media practitioner said here Tuesday.

Dr Gwynne Dyer, a freelance journalist and columnist, said the US wanted to extend its control over the world and controlling oil flow from Iraq would help achieve this aim as most of the oil produced by Iraq was not used in the US, but exported to the east, especially to China.

"This we see as a very invisible way of making sure China can be kept in check. By 2040, the US knows China would be equal not only in economic terms but also military might. What a better way to keep the lid on China than controlling its oil," he said.

He was speaking at the three-day War Crimes Conference, organised by the Perdana Global Peace Organisation, headed by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, which entered its second day at the Putra World Trade Centre here.

"Going to war with Iraq was just a distraction from the actual intention, that is to control the entire supply of oil in the Persian Gulf," Dyer said at a session entitled "The Ultimate War Crime & How to Distract the Media".

"You don't need to invade a country to get oil from them. They are in the business of selling it. But if you want to control where the oil is being sold, then you control whoever buys that oil and in this case, China. The main aim is to get to the heart of the Persian Gulf and control the flow of oil," he added.

He said the war in Iraq was on the pretext of countering terrorist threats but until today there was no evidence that Iraq had any weapons of mass destruction nor did it house large terrorist groups.

"The reason given for the attack or invasion is of course nonsense. It was a manufactured reasoning. As a journalist, I have friends in the American and British intelligence who can vouch for this," Dyer revealed.

The real reason for the invasion, he claimed was a "greater power game" to impose American superiority over the world.

"The real target was actually China which is expected to become a major economic player by 2040. The US wants to continue their control...they don't like to be number two or three, they don't like other positions except being number one."

He said the task of criminalising war and making it illegal was done 52 years ago with the establishment of the United Nations.

"But now the UN has been sidelined. They do not pay heed to the UN...they can go to war but when others do that, then it's a crime and is illegal."

World To Endure Chaos Unless War Declared Illegal - Mahathir

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Unless war is declared illegal, the world would have to endure endless state of war between powerful and weak nations, with no security for anyone, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Monday.

"There would be no place in the world that is safe. Instead of diminishing (war), instead of peace, we will see endless escalation of wars with ways of killing and destruction that we cannot always anticipate or prepare for," he said.

Dr Mahathir, who is chairman of the Perdana Global Peace Organisation, said this in his keynote address at the opening of the three-day War Crimes Conference and Exhibition, dubbed the Kuala Lumpur Initiative to Criminalise War, which kicked off at the Putra World Trade Centre this morning.

He said possession of nuclear weapons would be quite useless as nationals of these nuclear power states could be attacked and killed anywhere in the world, while issuing travel advisories "simply make prisons of their own countries".

"Of what use is world power and hegemony if you cannot even see the countries and the world you hegemonise. The security checks and retaliatory attacks you mount, the greater will be the anger and hatred, the more will your people be targets of unpredictable attacks, even if we discount the increasing cost of everything we do," he added.

He said while powerful nations, like the United States and Britain, were calling for a war on terror, this combat could not be won simply because terrorists were faceless, acting individually or in small independent groups.

Malaysia's fourth Prime Minister also reiterated that the current war in the Middle East would be endless unless the hearts and minds of the people there were won and they could only be won if the big powers were willing to admit the root causes of the conflict and remove them.

"When you are wrong, admit you are wrong. Being in the state of denial helps neither you nor anyone else. Sending in more troops simply creates more targets," Dr Mahathir said.

He said even as the world sought a solution to the war in West Asia, it had to struggle to render wars as illegal unless sanctioned by the international community.

"Force may be used only if the international community concludes that brutish regimes like those of Pol Pot or Radovan Karadic need to be removed. But sanctions and other acts must be exercised not by the Security Council but by the General Assembly of the United Nations. And it should not be by unanimity. This is an important caveat as we have seen how powerful countries abused their vetoes, rendering the Security Council useless.

He said the only other justification for the use of military force "is when a country is attacked and has to defend itself", noting that in such a situation, the international community must go to its defence. No country should on its own, decide to go to the defence of an attacked country, he added.

Dr Mahathir said the world should now demand nuclear weapons reduction programme by the big nuclear powers, who had no moral right to stop other countries from developing nuclear weapons.

He also questioned why was there a right for major nuclear powers to deter attacks against their country, but the same right was not accorded other countries when being attacked by these nuclear powers.

"Are only the lives, the property and the countries of nuclear powers worthy of protection and saving while the lives, property and countries of non-nuclear powers deserve no protection?"

"Do we have first-class and second-class human beings and the latter have less rights to their lives? Are Muslims third-class world citizens that they in particular should have no nuclear weapons. What is their record? Have they used nuclear weapons? Have they used depleted uranium?" asked Dr Mahathir.

He said while the international community must not condone terror attacks, it should also not sanction the cruel retaliation by powerful countries and their proxies against the puny attacks by their victims.

The former Prime Minister said the terror caused by powerful countries with their rockets, missiles and bombs could not be said to be less than that caused by a suicide bomber.

"The terror caused is actually greater and the powerful countries are much more terrorists than the suicide bombers. For as long as we believe killing people is a way of solving disputes, there will be terror attacks by both sides. War is nothing more than legitimised terrorism," he added.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohamad accused George W. Bush and Tony Blair of being more evil and bigger murderers than Saddam Hussein and the Sept. 11 attackers.
In some of his most provocative swipes at the U.S. and British leaders, Mahathir said Monday that their war in Iraq had caused worse terror than al-Qaida's suicide bombers around the world.

"History should remember Blair and Bush as the killers of children, or as the lying prime minister and president,'' said Mahathir.

"What Blair and Bush have done is worse than what Saddam had done,'' Mahathir, 81, said in a speech to inaugurate a three-day conference organized by his nongovernment organization, Perdana, and aimed at criminalizing war.

On Wednesday, conference delegates are expected to formally launch a war tribunal that would hold "trials'' for world leaders, including Bush and Blair, against whom common citizens file complaints.

The tribunal will not have the legal authority of any international organization and will not be able to impose penalties, but Mahathir said its aim is to condemn the accused in history books.

"We should not hang Blair if the tribunal finds him guilty, but he should always carry the label 'War Criminal, Killer of Children, Liar,''' Mahathir said.

"And so should Bush and the pocket Bush of the Bushland of Australia,'' he said, referring to Australia's Prime Minister John Howard, a staunch ally in Washington's campaign against terrorism.

Seventeen people - nine from Iraq, five from the Palestinian territories and three from Lebanon - have arrived for the peace conference, where they will submit oral or written complaints to the so-called Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission.

After investigations, the commission will decide whether the leaders accused in the complaints should stand trial, albeit in absentia, at the war tribunal.

Mahathir said terrorist attacks, such as those of Sept. 11, 2001, are weak people's retaliation against oppression by powerful countries.

Terrorism cannot be condoned, but neither can the "cruel retaliation by powerful countries,'' he said.

The Sept. 11 attackers may have killed about 3,000 people, but about 600,000 people have been killed during the U.S.-led war in Iraq and Afghanistan, he said.

"The terror caused (by powerful countries) is actually greater, and the powerful countries are much more terrorists than the suicide bombers,'' he said. - AP

Last year it was announced that every student will receive free text book. Currently those parents whose income is less thatn RM2000 will receive free text book. When the announcement was made thousand were happy till last night when the government announced that they won't give free text book to those students whose parents income above RM2000.
Last night reporters asked pak lah to comment on this matter, and he said that we can't expect everything to be free, government has to spend additional RM108 mil for this purpose and parents should sacrifice a little for their children's education. I would like to ask pak lah have you sacrifice for the country???? For a small sinus operation you spent taxpayer's money to go to australia, your had renovated your Sri Perdana (which is still new) for RM15mil, you had purchased a vvip jet for RM200million ( although you tried to fool public that you leased it from PMB which is 100% own by the government), you gave to Bukit Mertajam High School RM 20mil ti be upgraded (just because it was where you studied,what about other school), donated 50million pound for Cambridge University and the list goes on. Why cant you sacrifice RM108 million for the 25 million people?????????? You wont be spending this amount every year as the books can be used at least 5 years. You want us the parents to sacrifice, do you know that it's not only text book that we have to buy, we have to spend most of our income for our children education. We have to pay for their extra classes, sport activities, tuition etc.It's not free and it's not cheap.
If you still want the higher income group to pay for their children's text book fine, but you should change it to those whose salary is above RM5000. RM2000-4000 nowaday is nothing.

Dr M: Wars should be declared a crime

KUALA LUMPUR: The media should send out the message that wars should be declared criminal acts, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on the eve of a three-day War Crimes Conference and Exhibition organised by the Perdana Global Peace Organisation.

He added that the media should also play a stronger role in informing the public about the dangers of wars and their effects on social order.

Dr Mahathir said participants for the conference were from a cross-section of people comprising journalists, scientists and torture victims from Canada, the United States and Japan.

The former prime minister said the conference would also be setting up a commission and a war crimes tribunal.


Fielding questions: The media needs to inform the public about the effects of war, said Dr Mahathir whose wife Toh Puan Siti Hasmah was with him at the press conference.
War victims would be asked to provide a statutory declaration of crimes committed against them.

“It will not undermine the status of the International Criminal Court,” Dr Mahathir said adding that former judges will sit on the tribunal.

“The accused may not come, but trials in absentia have been carried out before. We think this court will make real, fair decisions,” he noted.

“The Western perception is so narrow that they don’t see conflicts in Iraq and Palestine as criminal compared to Darfur and Rwanda, as such the killing of Iraqi people was not perceived by the West as war crimes,” said Dr Mahathir.

He added that the Prime Minister’s Department had donated a considerable sum for the conference.

On reports that he had been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by four NGOs from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr Mahathir said he had no knowledge of the matter.

PETALING JAYA: Four non-governmental organisations in Bosnia and Herzegovina have nominated Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the Nobel Peace Prize 2007.

They are the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology, the Congress of Bosnik Intellectuals and two Christian organisations – the Serb Civic Council from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Croat National Council.

The move to nominate the former Prime Minister was spearheaded by Dr Ejup Ganic, who was Vice-President of Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1990-96 and President of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina until March 2001.

Dr Ganic, currently the Chancellor of the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology, worked closely with Dr Mahathir in the 1990s when Malaysia provided economic, political and humanitarian support to a Bosnia-Herzegovina recovering from the trauma of genocide and ethnic cleansing in the 1992-95 civil war.

Nominations to the Norwegian Nobel Committee closed on Feb 1 and this year’s list includes former US Vice-President Al Gore, Finnish peace broker Martti Ahtisaari and Chinese dissident Rebiya Kadeer.

In a nomination paper signed by Dr Ganic made available to The Star, Dr Mahathir is described as the Third World’s “most illustrious contemporary” and its “most courageous advocate.”

Dr Ganic said that Dr Mahathir had influenced the world by leaving behind lessons on how diversity could be managed, conflicts reconciled and multi ethnicity harnessed to build a vibrant economic and political system.

He also highlighted Dr Mahathir’s “Prosper Thy Neighbour” policy, his enlightened vision of Islam and his work as an ambassador of peace in Iraq-Iran, Bosnia-Herzegovina, southern Thailand, Philippines and Aceh.

Dr Mahathir, 81, who retired from public office in 2003, launched the Kuala Lumpur Initiative to Criminalise War in December 2005 and chairs the Perdana Global Peace Organisation (PGPO) that was set up to implement the initiative.

Weak Opposition Parties.

When will Malaysia have good and strong opposition? Think about Pas,Dap and Pkr they are useless.
The Pm has political headache, there is grumblings within the party(UMNO),critics from his predecessor, criticism of his will to fight corruption, the economy doesnt to see much improvement and the grim fiscal duty to cut states subsidies. But he is lucky enough to have weak opposition.The opposition fails to potray it can be a viable alternative for the people.Intead of piling pressure on Abdullah who has made a lots of blunders, making family rich, the opposition has struggled to be heard.
The recent boycott of an by-election by the opposition showed that they have no means to fight and get votes from the people.The voters instead turned out and gave government candidate an improved majority because they are fed up with the opposition.
The group that are proving to be a much bigger thorn to the Pm are the bloggers of the internet and his sharp-tongued predecessor,the Grand Old Man (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed) and not the opposition.

What a shame

According to a reliable source, during PM's official visit to Venezeula in Dec 2006, in his dull speech, compared to fiery and gutsy speech by Hugo Chavez, he has mentioned Venezuela as New Zealand, Bolivia and Vietnam in three seperate speeches. What a shame . I'm so embarrassed to have a pm like him. Just imagine your guest came to your house and keep mentioning your name wrongly.The problem him is that he sleeps(most of the time) during function/speeches.

FTA with US will make us suffer more than brings benefit to us.It will kill our local business very badly, hope the government will really crack their head and think it over. Like the FTA with Japan, we bring in cheap cars and in return we export vege and fruits to them without tax, is this beneficial to us??? We kill proton business, how much vege and fruits can we export to Japan?????

Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad warned that a free trade agreement with the United States could harm Malaysia, claiming that a similar pact signed with Japan recently has brought no benefits.
"If you ask me, I worry that the FTA with the U.S. may have an adverse effect also on us,'' Mahathir, who has often voiced concerns about what he views as Western-dominated globalization, was quoted as saying by the national news agency, Bernama.
The U.S. and Malaysia earlier this month agreed to launch FTA talks and conclude them by the end of the year before the deal is sent to Congress in Washington for approval by July 2007.
Mahathir said he feared that Americans might try to gain access to Malaysian government procurement contracts, which have been used for more than three decades to help the country's ethnic Malay Muslim majority catch up with the wealthier ethnic Chinese minority.
"If we lose that, we would not we able to correct'' it later, Mahathir added. Mahathir retired in 2003 after 22 years in power. Over the past year, he has often been critical of how the government led by his successor, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, handled issues such monetary controls and the decline of the national car-making industry.
Mahathir said he has been unimpressed by a pact that Malaysia signed with Japan in December, which will do away with almost all tariffs in 10 years, spurring the flow of Japanese cars, Malaysian mangos and other goods between both nations.
"We are not the greatest producer of vegetables and fruits and these are low value things,'' Mahathir said. "It would seem to me that the FTA with Japan is not beneficial to us.''


Yesterday the US had warned Malaysia that if the deal dont go thru we will be facing hard time, this is not good thing for us. Will our leader bow to them??? I am afraid US will use the scomi issue, oil for food scandal to blackmail our "leader" and the "leader" will bow down to them.
The US had so many times threaten to call off this deal because of environment issue,human right issue,labour issue and latest our deal with Iranian oil company.
Rafidah out of surprise has woke up and said that if US keep threatening Malaysia she would suggest to our PM to cancel this FTA talks with US, but the question is will he???? Do we really need this FTA with the US???? To me to hell with US, we don't need you.We will have to bow to them all the time if this deal go thru.

Tun Dr Mahathir is always enjoyed during interviews by reporters,not like pak lah who makes reporters feel sleepy. Tun had conducted a press conference for the upcoming conference cum Exhibition entitled EXPOSE WAR CRIMES: CRIMINALISE WAR from 5th to 7th February 2007 from 8.30am. to 5.30pm. at the Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur. The Conference will be held at Dewan Merdeka, PWTC while the Exhibition, which will be extended to February 11 2007, will be held at Dewan Tun Razak Hall 4.He told reporters this press conference is for this purpose only. When he was about to leave the pc some foreign journalist asked him to comment of the recently purchased airbus A319 by the government and pak lah said that it has leased it from PMB not purchased it.
As leaving the pc his comments( which is typical Tun's style) was :"Its VERY NECCESARY! I thought it should be a B747 or A380. but the Government should be careful, because they got no money. Its not bought by the Government. Its bought by somebody(PMB), who is owned 100% by the Government."

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun DrMahathir Mohammed threw his support behind Thailand's diplomatic spat with Singapore, accusing the city-state of interfering in the country's internal affairs and violating diplomatic norms by permitting its senior government official to meet with ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

In an interview with Nation Channel's Thepchai Yong over the weekend on this island resort, Tun Dr Mahathir said Singapore had permitted Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister S. Jayakumar to meet with Thaksin in spite of their awareness that such act would grossly upset Bangkok.

"Singapore doesn't really care about the opinion of its neighbours," said Tun Dr Mahathir, adding that the decision was "unfeeling and not sympathetic".

"Singapore believes the most important thing is what profits Singapore," he said.

Thai-Singapore relation has hit one of its lowest points following the controversial meeting. The Foreign Ministry insisted that it has given the island-state prior warning about Thailand's strong objection to the meeting.

Two weeks ago, army chief General Sonthi Boonyaratglin accused Singapore of spying on Thailand by eaves dropping on telephone conversations, adding more fuel to what was billed as already a difficult situation between the two countries.

"That's the kind of things they do," Tun Dr Mahathir said. The Singaporean government dismissed Sonthi's claim.

When asked about his 22 years of dealing with Singapore, Tun Dr Mahathir said "You'll get no where with them either being nice or being tough, they only think of themselves,"
Nevertheless, Tun Dr Mahathir said both sides to patch things up but "in away that is honorable", which, he said, should start with an apology from Singapore.

The former Malaysian leader said he would welcome a meeting with Thaksin only if the former Thai premier asked for it. But Mahathir quickly downplayed the idea, saying "I don't have anything to discuss with him.

Thaksin has publicly praised Mahathir as his role model during his time in office.

"Although he has said I was his friend and he wants to follow my way. But many of his ways are not my way," Tun Dr Mahathir said.

Thaksin has been living in exile since his ouster in September. The former premier has launched a media campaign to discredit the military-appointed government in Bangkok and the junta itself, accusing them of mismanagement and being undemocratic.

Singapore's investment firm Temasek Holdings purchase of Thaksin family-controlled Shin Corp. in January had triggered an outcry in Thailand and exploded into a national scandal that led to his downfall after it was disclosed that the family paid no taxes on the Bt73-billion deal.

The deal allowed the Singaporean investment fund, Temasek to control operation of mobile phone, Satellite and television network, which the junta deemed as a possible access to security concern areas,

Tun Dr Mahathir said Thailand had benefited economically under Thaksin but added that his handlings of policy and controversies were not very diplomatic.

Tun Dr Mahathir dismissed suggestion that Thaksin had followed his footstep by meddling with press freedom. He said his outspokenness against Western countries has put him in a bad light with the foreign press.

No cut in fuel prices

The governemnt does not plan to lower the fuel prices just yet. Prices hag gone down from USD70 per barrel to USD54 and will review the prices in a year time. But when the government increased the price they did not review, staraight away increase the 30 cent per litre. The government should reduce the price without review too.
Another thing is that the local carriers should reduce or abolish the fuel surcharge which they charged to passenger. Now that the price has dropped down USD20 perbarrel which is about RM72. Airasia and MAS are still charging the old price of fuel surcharge.It's always easy to increase the price but to reduce something impossible.This is the reality and facts of our daily live. Prices of goods keep increasing.The government should reduce the price of fuel asap to help lesser the burden of rakyat.The 30 cent increase was a slap on the face to us the rakyat after a big mandate given to the government.

PM Denies Buying VIP Jet

Abdullah denied that he has bought a jet and it is Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad(PMB) who had purchased it. Government is just leasing the aircraft from PMB and it is for government use only. It's better for the government to lease than to buy said Abdullah because of the maintenance. He also said that PMB will gain from the lease of the jet.
Well Mr Lah, first of all let us remind you that Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad belongs to the government if you dont remember or your oxford advisors forgot to brief you on the situation.PMB is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Berhad.Khazanah belongs to the government.So what is the difference whether the Half Past Six (HP6) government bought or PMB. Who are you trying to fool???????
We are not saying that the government can't buy executive jet for VIP use but we already have 4 VVIP jets and under the control of Malaysian Airforce which is supposed to be guarded and handle by them only. Current jets under Airforce for VVIP are :
1 Boeing Business Jet
1 Bombardier Global Express
1 Dassault Falcon 900B
1 Fokker F-28

Why we have to purchase another jet while the money could be use somewhere else?????

Anwar to complete Phd in Brisbane

MELBOURNE: Former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will complete his PhD research through Griffith University in Brisbane, a Courier-Mail newspaper report said.
Anwar has yet to finish his doctorate on democracy and corruption in Southeast Asia, the newspaper said.
Griffith University Islamic Research Unit head Mohamad Abdalla said Anwar’s “interest in us is very flattering”.
Anwar will liaise with staff at the university, and is expected to visit Brisbane before his research is published.

USD 50million VIP Jet for pm

SO this government seems to have plenty of money, now they have bought a VIP jet for our dearest pm for USD 50 million...wow. Not that they should not but the existing VIP jets are also very new, one of them boughtin 2001. They bought airbus A320 jet and now in the process of renovation.The aircraft which carries the pre-customer delivery registration of D-AIDR, of which AI denotes that it still is under the responsibility of Airbus Industrie, is expected to be delivered in the next 3-4 months following completion of outfitting works in Basel, Switzerland.

Currently Malaysia is having Boeing BBJ, Bombardier Global Express, Falconjet 900B and F28 for our VIPs.Is this still not enough??????????
A source said that it would be good if the taxpayer money that spend on this jet be substituted to buying airforce planes.We can buy for helicopters/fighter jets with this money, Nuri helicopter is considered antic and we keep using them...even after so many accident.
It seems that this pm of ours have a very high taste, when he came to power he renovated Sri Perdana for millions even though it was just 4 years old....imagine.

Rocky Bru appeal to strike out nst suit

Thank you for all your support and encouragement.
Without going into the merits of the case, here is a brief update of what happened in Court:
1. Today was set for hearing of the injunction against me.
2. My lawyers filed an application to strike out the suit yesterday.
3. On the request of both parties, the Court set 22 February (230pm) to hear the striking out application. It is to be heard before the injunction application which is also set for mention on the same day.
For clarity, there is no injunction order against me.
4. Further, the lawyers for the Plaintiffs this morning raised the issue of comments by readers made on this blog in respect of my postings of 18 and 24 January which may be seen as prejudicing the case. My lawyers asked for time to look at the said comments.
The Court set 29 January (900am) for both parties to inform the learned Judge of my position.
In view that the case is before the Court, it is for the Court to decide on all matters pertaining to the same. We must respect the judicial process.
As such, I have no alternative but to decline comments related to this case to ensure that the proceedings run smoothly and fairly.
I will continue to update you on developments as they happen.
