MCA: 1MDB board should explain, not PM

1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) should explain the "real" situation in the company instead of leaving it to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, said MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.

"Just like everyone else, we too want a clearer picture about the 1MDB issue and it is the duty of the (board of directors) to provide it.

"We do not feel that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should be asked to answer," she told a press conference.

Chew said "specific people" had been designated to look after the project and they "should stand up and answer to the people."

"It is something that has affected the nation, so it is time for a transparent explanation on the issue," she said.

Government sovereign fund 1MDB has been embroiled in controversy with debts amounting to some RM40bil since 2009.

Lately, Lembaga Tabung Haji came under fire over a land deal with 1MDB at the Tun Razak Exchange.
