Nik Aziz advocates contests for Pas presidency & deputy

The post of president in Pas, which is normally unchallenged, should be contested together with the position of the deputy, the party’s spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said today.
It was good if both positions were contested as this would put the holders on their toes, he added.
"If both posts were challenged, then the president and his deputy would be careful in whatever actions they took as they knew there would be people contesting against them in the party elections,” he said.
"However, as I have said earlier it doesn't mean everybody can contest these positions. Those who want to make a challenge must look at themselves first to ascertain if they are fit to take up the positions as it is a heavy responsibility."
Nik Aziz, who is the Kelantan menteri besar, was speaking to reporters after giving away certificates in Islamic studies to students of the Kolej Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Ismail Petra (Kias) at Balai Islam here.
On the close contest expected for the post of deputy president, he said certain media was playing up the issue and he was surprised that some writers who had not written on the party were also jumping on the bandwagon.
"I do not know why our party election has drawn so much interest. We must have done something right,” he said.
It has been speculated that Kelantan state executive councillor Datuk Husam Musa, who is a vice-president, will be contesting for the post.
Nik Aziz defended the state government's decision to approve 400-hectare of land in the Gunong Stong tourist belt to a company belonging to the son of Pas strongman Abdul Razak Abbas, who is said to be close to him.
"The company is qualified and there is no reason for us to turn down its application,” he said.

tunku : it is very clear that nik aziz want someone to challenge hadi awang and nasharudin as they are on the other side of the group.we have seen lately both of them always had different views.nik aziz is giving hint for pas members to nominate someone for the party top post. regarding the land matter, if it was the bn government doing that, they will harp on the issue for years but if it is done by pas,pkr or dap it's ok.they can give to anyone they like,it's not wrong but not for bn.bn can't do that.what a double standard attitude.
