DAP assemblyman 's crime prevention unit cautioned by copsPolice have warned those who become members of a crime prevention patrolling unit set up by Komtar assemblyman Ng Wei Aik not to do anything against the law.
Northeast District police chief Assistant Commissioner Azam Abdul Hamid said police here had received information on the unit set up by the DAP assemblyman.
He said based on investigations, the `Polis DAP` motorcycle unit was fully equipped with walkie-talkies but it was not recognised by the Royal Malaysian Police.
Azam said until today, there has been no application or discussion held with the police to find out the kind of action and operation methods used in their patrolling.
"We do not want them to do anything against the law. They do not have the power to check or detain any individuals.
"They did not bother to discuss with us and just went ahead to set up this unit," he said.
Azam said the unit, which could be classified as an illegal unit, was established by political leaders with certain agendas.
"They may have established it with good intentions but this is not the way to do things," he said, adding that police will monitor the unit closely as any wrongdoing could result in violation of the law.
"I wish to emphasise that the recognised crime prevention patrol units are the Volunteer Corps (Rela), the Village Development and Security Committee and the community police set up by the police," he said.

I agree with vinnan. These people use the cloak of democracy and then they will impose their version of it on everyone. But whomever goes against them, then they are branded as 'anti democratic mindless government cronies'.
So the question is what kind and whose brand of democracy are they championing?
And as Tunku said, let's keep a serious eye on these goons. Or else we'll have another crisis - two versions of the law.

why the police does not take a stern action by consficating the vehicle? Nobody should be allowed to form their own police unit or use police sticker. I don't think the police will allow Ahmad, Ramasamy and Tong Seng to wear a police uniform if he is not a policeman.. This is absolutely unacceptable. Come on police..don't let this become a precedent to others...sick.

Now what the fuss is all the noise. Ask yourself whether our Police have been doing a good job in preventing crime or not.
