The latest development in Selangor MB fiasco has pinned the PR alliance down to the darkest and furthest corner of the stinky, dirty overcrowded room. With UMNO declaration of support for Khalid from all the 12 BN Selangor Assembly, PR is in urgent and imperative need for immediate clarity of stand of all 15 PAS, 15 DAP and 13 PKR Reps. It is crucial for PR to ensure that the majority of their Reps, reject Khalid as MB.
PR cannot lose the game that they have started, while UMNO just wants to end it fast so that the state government may focus on the more important issues for the sake of the rakyats.
There should be no problem with DAP Reps as they would surely tow-the-line with the leaders. PKR, on the other hand, would be divided while PAS would be the hardest to predict. On the surface, PAS leaders are vocal in wanting Khalid to stay but this may not necessarily mean that their Reps would follow suit.
The alliance would not have arrived to this, should Anwar or DAP had not been so greedy, impatient and arrogant. Ousting Khalid proved to be not as easy as they thought it would be and now they are stuck in the game with no way out. The only mean to end the game is to lose. The only question is how much is PR willing to ‘lose’ in order to ‘win’?
Rumor has it that as much as RM50 million is going around in order to ensure Khalid goes. With that much money, we can expect a U-turn, an S-turn or whatever turn from anybody anytime.
Still, this doesn’t end the game. Instead, the game becomes much more difficult since Wan Azizah is not a Malaysian citizen by birth. Selangor’s law requires an MB to be a Malay, Muslim and a Malaysian-born child. Wan Azizah was born in Singapore and only became a citizen of Malaysia by naturalization. So, Wan Azizah is totally out of the picture.
Azmin Ali is said to be next in line to take the MB’s seat. Unfortunately, he too, is not a Malaysian-born citizen.
It looks like PKR is leading the alliance to a dead-end. All the attacks on Khalid, the name-calling and the threats against PAS turned out to be nothing but slapstick stunt of Pakatan Rakyat. What is more interesting is that, the stunt might have also caused the party to be investigated by MACC soon.
There is never any day without chaos in PR and there will always be. Malaysians cannot afford to even imagine this chaotic PR alliance ruling this country. It’s just much too messy.
