The Selangor saga has ended with Tan Sri
Khalid Ibrahim retaining his post as Mentri Besar and seems stronger at
present until Sunday when PAS decides whether to back him or dump him.
If PAS
decides to back him as reflected in statements made by the party
spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat and president Datuk Seri Abdul
Hadi Awang, then DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) can kiss goodbye to
Selangor.
If PAS decides to dump him, which is very unlikely given
the heavy shelling DAP and PKR leaders had conducted on PAS and its
leaders, then Selangor will have a fresh state election.
Either way,
DAP and PKR has lost a state all because of PKR de facto chief Datuk
Seri Anwar Ibrahim made the Kajang Move in January without discussing
first with parties in the unregistered Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
As of now until Sunday, it depends on PKR on move to make as the longer the party leaders wait, the stronger Khalid becomes.
Khalid seems to have outmaneuvered all the moves PKR de facto chief
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had made and in fact, the scenario now is that
Khalid is ahead of him.
Khalid’s latest move yesterday in sacking
the excos from DAP and PKR had not only ended all legal avenues for the
two parties to do a legal battle with him when he received the consent
from the Sultan for his action but more so he had cut all ties with the
two parties.
He no longer wants to have any dealing with the two parties in anyway and he is not expected to stop there.
He is expected to purge members of the two parties in all the state’s
local councils which will affect the effectiveness of the assemblymen of
the two parties to serve the constituents.
In short, Khalid and the
state civil servants will be directly involved in the problems of the
constituents under those assemblymen which in the long run render them
ineffective and affect their chances of being re-elected in the next
general election.
Khalid has had all his moves well calculated which had the DAP and PKR leaders now in checkmate situation.
So they now turn to PAS to decide in their favour and this is exactly
what they are doing at present, which included the moderates in PAS that
included party deputy president Mohamed Sabu, vice-president Datuk
Husam Musa and central committee member Dr Zulkifli Ahmad – giving all
the ‘bad pictures’ if PAS is to decide against them.
But PAS has not
even thought of moving the central committee meeting earlier to
accommodate the urgency of the issue which further angered leaders of
DAP and PKR.
PAS is not racing against time and the party leaders seem to be watching statements made all quarters for the Sunday meeting.
In the meantime, Khalid is strengthening himself by purging all PKR and
DAP men and PKR is in deep thought on what move to make now and on
Sunday is PAS decides to endorse Nik Aziz’s and Abdul Hadi’s stand.
