Pengkalan Kubor by-election: PAS belittles PKR’s chance to win seat

Even before candidates are fielded for the vacant Pengkalan Kubor state seat, Kelantan PAS has belittled the chances of it's ally PKR to win it after state Dewan Muslimat chief Siti Zailah Mohd Yusof suggested on Monday that PAS should contest instead.

Harakah Daily reported on Sunday, Siti Zailah, who is also the Rantau Panjang MP had claimed that based on the past election record, Pakatan Rakyat (PR) had a better chance of winning the seat if a PAS candidate was fielded in the seat that had been won by Umno for the past three terms.

She added that only a PAS candidate had ever won the seat as the opposition against Umno.
Trouble is brewing between PAS and PKR in Kelantan after Siti Zailah’s suggestion and it is a prelude of more acrimony between both Opposition allies.

On Sunday in the PKR annual assembly, defeated PKR candidate for Pengkalan Kubor Saharun Ibrahim lamented that internal sabotage lead to him losing to Barisan Nasional.

In GE13, Noor Zahidi oh Umno defeated Saharun with a 1,736-vote majority, polling 10,174 votes against Saharun’s 8,438, while independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary obtained 65 votes.

State PKR chief Abdul Aziz Kadir, in a text message replied that he would leave the decision to the PR central committees to decide on the candidate for the seat.
