PAS Has To Make Up Mind Before Talking To Umno - Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- PAS has to make up its mind first before offering to hold talks with Umno on any issue, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
Najib who is also Umno president said this was necessary as experience showed that PAS had been inconsistent in its stand.
"I don't know what to say as his (PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat) stand changes like the weather. Sometimes he agrees, sometimes he disagrees and sometimes it is closed. So, I don't know his real stand.
"I am waiting for a firm stand from PAS. It is difficult to talk if he continues to be inconsistent," he said at Kampung Paya community hall after a visit to Kampung Baru here Saturday.
Those present include Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.
Najib was commenting a statement by the PAS leader two days ago that Umno and PAS should stop talking politics but should instead discuss issues on Islam.
He said the inconsistent stand of the Kelantan Menteri Besar made Umno undecided over the offer.
Umno had agreed to discuss with PAS on Islam after PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang mooted the idea last year but it was quickly shot down by Nik Abdul Aziz.
Najib denied Nik Abdul Aziz's claim that Umno had spent 50 years attacking PAS and added it was Umno that developed Islam in the country.
"We never attacked the Islamic movement. What they said is not true. Umno was responsible for developing Islam in the country.
"We dont' agree with the PAS way of doing thing. I like to stress that PAS is a political party but this does not equate it to Islam," he said.
In KOTA BAHARU, Nik Abdul Aziz said his offer to Umno was to discuss the Islam issue by PAS adding it was not new as it had been proposed decades ago.
"We like to focus on two things, why Umno can't accept Islam as a party policy and what is wrong with the Islam promoted by PAS," he said here today.
Nik Abdul Aziz said the offer should not be misinterpreted by Umno and PAS leaders and that he had sent a letter to Najib three months ago and was still waiting for a reply.

tunku : never trust nik aziz.he can change like a chameleon anytime depending on situation.he had learned that from anwar.the best for Umno is to just ignore the senile crook old man.pas is irrelevant.they can't decide among themselves regarding Islamic issue, what more to discuss it with Umno.it is just a waste of time.
