KEPALA BATAS, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- A protest against Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng showed a growing discontent over his administration, said former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Abdullah, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Kepala Batas, said as Lim was also taken to task by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leaders, his (Lim's) weaknesses could no longer be concealed.
"I believe the conflict will escalate and this will weaken the state government," he told reporters after presenting angpow and gifts in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festival here today.
Lim has been called a 'dictator' and 'communist-minded' by MP for Bayan Baru Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim and "a leader without class who practised vengeful politics" by MP for Nibong Tebal Tan Tee Beng.
Some 3,000 people from 50 non-government organisations (NGOs), known as "Gabungan Sedaq" staged a protest in Penang on Friday with the aim of seeking justice for Malay traders, who were allegedly discriminated by the state government.
In another development, Abdullah urged PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to state his stand over Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat's call for Pas and Umno to discuss issues on Islam.
"Umno is always ready to talk on the issue and if Pas leaders agreed to it. It is fitting for the matter to be pursued. The meeting should be seen positively," he added.
tunku : lim guan eng should listen to pak lah'as he has all the experiences.he has the same denial syndrome and 'syok sendiri" attitude like guan eng.may be pak lah should meet guan eng and tell him his history so that guan eng will not do the same mistake.
