PAS and DAP bury the hatchet in Selangor

SHAH ALAM: PAS and the DAP buried the hatchet over a host of issues that had weighed heavily upon the Pakatan Rakyat-led government in Selangor in a two-hour meeting at the Concorde Hotel here.
Selangor PAS Commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Ali said both parties had acknowledged an end to their bitterness over various issues of late that had been given wide coverage in the media.
PAS, the Islamic party, and the DAP, the Chinese-dominated secular socialist party, had been at each other’s throats over a proposed ban on the sale of beer in Muslim-majority areas and the Select Committee for Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat).
Dr Hasan had crossed swords with Selcat chairman Teng Chang Khim whom he accused of applying bullying tactics against district officers during a public inquiry over misused funds before the last general election in March last year.
“We understand we have political differences in policies and principles ... but the struggle will continue in the spirit of true friendship,” Dr Hasan said.
He said the discussions were fruitful as PAS and DAP members were more enlightened on each other’s differences and found that their meeting had strengthened their coalition state government.
“We believe that the beer ban issue would be resolved on its own based on the self-regulation method (proposed by the state administration), while the Selcat issue has ended with some positive feedback.
“So, speculation that some were prepared to jump ship to the Barisan Nasional over these issues is unfounded and untrue,” he added.
Dr Hasan said both parties had pledged to defend each other from outside attacks aimed at wreaking havoc in the Pakatan-led Selangor government.
“PAS and the DAP will work together to bring forth a better Pakatan-led government to ensure a stable, progressive, transparent welfare state that continues to be strong,” he said.
“From now on, we will hold regular meetings to iron out our differences on ideas and views, with the aim for better governance in the state,” he said.
Present at the meeting were Selangor DAP chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah, Selangor DAP deputy chairman Tony Pua, Klang Member of Parliament Charles Santiago, and state executive councillors Ronnie Liu, Iskandar Abdul Samad and Teresa Kok.

tunku : no matter what at the end, pas has to give up it's principles and struggles for dap and pkr as the two party are much more supreme than pas.pas will always be loser in pakatan and they are willing to be one as long as they can have some piece of the cake for their own satisfaction.people are the last thing in their agenda.it is high time for pas to change it's name.pas gives all.
