Ong agrees to meet Liow

KUALA LUMPUR: The extraordinary general meeting (EGM) called by MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat is being put on a backburner as Ong has agreed to meet with his newly-appointed deputy Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai to resolve the current party problems.
The party's secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng said Ong had accepted Liow's olive branch to find ways to end the current impasse.
"The priority now is to get both together to talk. We will deal with the EGM later," he said at the parliament lobby yesterday.
The relationship between Ong and Liow became rocky when Liow, together with 21 other central committee members, openly disagreed with Ong's move to call for an EGM to let delegates decide on the need to have fresh polls to solve the current party problems.
They felt having another one -- so soon after the Oct 10 EGM which saw delegates rejecting both Ong and former deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek -- was detrimental to party stability.
Wong said the meeting was likely to be within the next couple of days.
"I hope both Ong and Liow can find the best way to resolve the party crisis," he said.
However, former vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn wants Dr Chua to be included in the meeting as well as Dr Chua commands nearly 50 per cent of support in the party.
"If you have a consensus between yourselves, you risk alienating Dr Chua's large group of supporters and this will be detrimental to the party."
He said all the stakeholders should put aside their personal interests to find ways to resolve the party problems in the meeting.

tunku : again ding dong here and there.i guess liow and the 21 CC members does not want election in the party as they are afraid of losing their position if election is held in MCA again.they are putting themselves above the party now.we hope that they will resolve the problem soon as it is affecting BN's effort to get 2/3 majority back.
