Mad Tian Chua jailed 6mths for biting cop, to appeal

KUALA LUMPUR: Batu Member of Parliament Chua Tian Chang, aka Tian Chua, has been found guilty by the Magistrates Court here of voluntarily causing hurt to a police constable and stopping the latter from discharging his duty about two years ago.
Magistrate Mohd Faizi Che Abu sentenced Tian Chua to six months’ jail and a fine of RM3,000, which might see him disqualified from his parliamentary seat.
The 46-year-old PKR strategic director applied for and was granted a stay so that he can file an appeal, which his lawyers said would be done as soon as possible.
His previous bail of RM3,000 was maintained.
Tian Chua was charged under Section 332 of the Penal Code, which carried a maximum jail sentence of three years or a fine or both. If he is jailed for more than a year or fined more than RM2,000, he will be disqualified from his seat after the appeal process, if any, has been exhausted.
He had claimed trial to biting constable Rosyaidi Anuar at the entrance to the Parliament complex at 10.45am on Dec 11, 2007.
Rosyaidi is attached to the Narcotics Division of the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters.
