NEW YORK: Sleepy Head Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is happy that Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has continued with several major development projects that he implemented while he was prime minister.
He cited as example the growth corridor projects which he introduced to woo foreign investments to Malaysia.
“Fortunately, my successor (Najib) has been very kind to me,” he said during the Asia Society’s President Forum here on Monday.
Abdullah added that whatever the Government did, it must have the support of the people.
He admitted that Malaysian voters had very “high expectations” of the Barisan Nasional Government after they gave the coalition its strongest victory in the 2004 general election.
Abdullah was responding to a question on Barisan’s dismal performance in the 2008 general election and whether it reflected the people’s unhappiness that some of the things he proposed in his election manifesto did not work out.
“I wish I had more time (to implement),” he said, adding that change often took time.
“It is not something that takes one or two or three years.”
Abdullah, who was prime minister from 2003 until early this year, stressed that he had always believed in opportunities for all.
He added that incentives given to bumiputras under the New Economic Policy were not intended to last forever but until there was an equitable distribution of wealth in the country.
On the recent liberalisation measures introduced by Najib which he himself had not implemented while he was premier, Abdullah said:
“I had started to liberalise and my successor had further liberalised. That was part of the plan.” He also spoke at length about the Islam Hadhari concept he promoted for a moderate and progressive Muslim nation when he was premier.
The forum is part of a series of dialogues where the society’s president Vishakha N. Desai interviews prominent guests on a broad range of Asian and Asian American topics, including politics, economics, culture and Asian relations with the United States. Past guests have included the Dalai Lama and David Rockefeller.

I do hope Pak Lah will join this Blogger-sphere arena soon..!!
Just like Mahathir and his "Che Det" does...!!!
Lu ada Berani ke Dollah...!!
In expressing his happiness, he is trying to get credit for the projects. Najib is wise enough to realise the damage Pak Lah did when he discontinued almost all of TDM's projects, especially the proposed bridge repalacing the causeway and the double-tracking damage. Alhamdullillah, Malaysians had to endure him for a short term only, otherwise, it would have been catastrophic and may be beyond repair. But due to Pak Lah, Najib had to spend a lot of unnecessary time and resources to do damage control.
