KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- Jerlun Member of Parliament Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said Wednesday the RM100 million damages Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was seeking from Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for his remarks was an attempt to silence critics of the opposition leader.
Mukhriz, who is Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, said such a big sum was seen as nothing more than a "threat" to the relevant quarters to not expose Anwar's weaknesses.
"This is Anwar's way of silencing those who try to expose his weaknesses," he told Bernama when commenting on matter, which arose after Muhyiddin had called Anwar a traitor to the Malays.
The deputy prime minister made the statement when opening the Sri Gading Umno divisional delegates meeting in Johor on Saturday, when protestors demanding the abolition of the Internal Security Act (ISA) had taken to the streets here.
Responding to the statement, Anwar had demanded a retraction of the statement and an open apology from Muhyiddin and the Utusan Malaysia daily which carried the news, as well as RM100 million in damages from both.
tunku : mukhriz is right, anwar's way of silencing those who expose his weaknesses and misbehaviour is to sue them for RM100mil. after taking things to court his critics can't say anything untill the court finish it's proceedings. just see at what he accuses his opponents during his speech, he tells fiction and fantasy stories about them like his buudy rpk(wanted by pdrm).they don't bother him because they know its all created stories and no truth in it but this moron can't accept what other says to him. this is the type of "pondan" leader he is.no wonder he is involve in sodomizing activities.
