Proton: Perdana maintenance fees not high

PETALING JAYA: Proton has refuted claims that the cost to maintain its Perdana model was high and reiterated that the fee charged was reasonable.
In a statement here Tuesday, Proton said the maintenance cost-effectiveness of a car depended largely on regular servicing at authorised service centres every three months or every 5,000km or as recommended by the manufacturer.
It said the mileage per year and the driver’s driving habits would also determine the car’s maintenance cost.
According to the statement, each regular service was normally in the RM200 range. This included oil filter and labour but excluded parts and components, mechanical failure and collision repairs.
It added the typical mileage for a car under normal usage was between 20,000km and 30,000km per year.
“During this mileage period, the average total maintenance cost of a Perdana V6 is estimated to be at RM2,300, based on records collated from authorised service dealers and branches,” it said.
However, it said, cars older than four years that were heavily used without proper and regular servicing would incur higher maintenance cost.
“Proton would like to stress that it is not accurate to compare the maintenance cost of a new one-year-old car to a high mileage four-year-old car, as the maintenance cost of the latter would naturally be higher,” it said.
Proton also said while it recognised that there were areas to be improved, its products were not of sub-standard quality that it could affect the decision of a state government to purchase other non-national makes over Proton cars.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng announced on Sunday that the state government would change its official cars to cheaper foreign cars when the current Proton Perdana V6s needed to be replaced.
On the alleged unanswered complaint letter sent by Penang State Secretary Datuk Jamaludin Hasan, Proton said it had replied the letter last month with a request to seek audience with the state officials to investigate the matter.

tunku : i am confuse about this whole maintenance issues. i have friends and relatives using perdana and they said that their maintenance was always below RM500 for a 5 years old car.may be proton should give more warranty period for government cars and the maintenance of these cars only to be done in proton service centre.be proud of your nation product.may be perak, penang and kedah government can wait till next year as the new model of perdana expected to be launched.

Hello...

Proton dahla mahal kemudian selepas 3 tahun merosot prestasi.

I say NO to Proton anymore. Kena tipu jer pakai Proton.

Tunku,

Another bout of Hypocrisy from these states. They should invite ACA or external auditor to investigate the bills, like what Terrengganu did.

Or like you said, strike a favourable deal with Proton on maintenance. I believe Proton can also provide cars on standby when major repairs are required.

By the way, why do they need Perdana, why can they use smaller cars, eg persona, what's wrong with that?

Those who espouse CAT principles should remember just that. It's not as if they can't function with a normal sedan.

Even Perak, why do they need Camry 2.4, why not camry 2.0.

With power come greed....

Oh yes,

Thanks for visiting my small time blog.

I am a commoner, grew up in the estates (8 different estates), a SPM drop out, but worked and studied on my way up.

I want to be a Malaysian first without forgetting my roots. Hence wanted my voice heard.

I always remind myself not to be ungrateful for what this country has done for me, my family and friends.

Malaysia is heaven on earth and many Malaysians failed to realise this with large number choosing to ignore this fact.

Thanks again.

i think the main reason why the maintenance fees is high because of the mark-up here and there.no way that the mechanic gonna charge only on the parts alone.how about their service?.what about the fella that send the car to the workshop?of course he wants abit of the money as well.

Kena pulak kereta kerajaan. Mesti mereka akan mark up kaw-kaw punya... Kalau dah kat highway tu, diperahnya minyak sampai pedal cecah ke lantai, lepas tu enjin mengerang macam orang sakit, maunya tak parah kos maintenance. Maunya tak pecah gearbox...

Buy Malaysian Products...
Leading by example? What happen to the slogan? The leaders should be prudent and maintenance is not an excuse for them to choose Camry.I am using Perdana, My children uses Hond, Toyota and Chevrolet ehen we all compare the maintenence of the other cares cost more than my Perdana. We travel endlessly too. Maybe the Government have to pay more as they are using L.O and for the workshop to claim takes about 3 months to get back the money i.e. provided the claim officer is around to sign the voucher etc.Anyway when the PKR took over Perak, like Dato Zamry said they made statements touse the hand down Perdanas so why change their statements now? I always doubted them cakap tak serupa bikin. Once they run the Govt they are getting comfortable and now they are doing the same.

Rasanya harga maintenance Perdana tidaklah tinggi mana.

Realitinya.. Maintenance Perdana tak adalah tinggi mana even parts pun boleh la kata.. tak la tinggi sangat.
Perak beli Toyota bukan la benda penting nak kena tengok. Terengganu beli Merc pun tak payah sibuk2 nak kecoh.. terutama yg benci sangat dgn PR.
Yang nak kena tengok ialah kenapa maintenance kereta.. bukan saja kereta.. tapi semua maintenance yg melibatkan kerajaan.. semuanya tinggi melampau. Boleh kata semua org tahu.. especially yg berniaga. Normally harga maintenance ker.. harga beli barang ker.. semuanya mesti mahal. Diorang tak peduli duit tu duit apa.. haram ker.. Sebabnya.. diorang cakap.. itu semua duit komisen.
Jadi moralnya.. beli la kereta apa pun. kalau mentality tak berubah.. dan tak kisahkan sgt gejala ni.. Maintenance Kancil pun boleh jadi mahal.
Yg kita dengar.. setakat yg keluar dalam paper.. yg kita tak tahu???? Yg mana kerajaan kita selama ni dok bagi senyap jer. So tak siapa yg tahu?
Yg sedihnya.. mostly org melayu sebab mostly org melayu yg kerja kerajaan. Semuanya gejala nak mengejar kemewahan.. berlumba2 nak tunjuk rumah sapa2 yg paling besar.. kereta sapa paling besar. Itulah hidup org melayu kita.
Orang putih dedahkan kita dengan budaya kuning.. Byk terlupa. BUang anak cukup hebat dikalangan Melayu. Budaya memberi2.. dimanja2.. sampai berlumba nak bermewah. Siapa pula yg mulakan?? Ini lah byk menghancurkan semua kaum..
Tepuk dada tanya selera..
