Mukhriz Supports Call For A New Johor-Singapore Bridge

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- Umno Youth executive council member Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir has expressed support to the call to revive the construction of a new bridge connecting Johor and Singapore.
Mukhriz said with the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex moved to the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, traffic congestion in Johor Baharu would become inevitable as the Johor Causeway, which was built in 1923, could no longer accommodate the tens of thousands of vehicles passing through the CIQ complex daily.
"This should be done immediately so that the traffic congestion in Johor Baharu can be tackled before it causes other problems such as slowing down the state and country's economic growth," he said in his blog "Mukhriz.com".
Mukhiz, who is Jerlun member of parliament, was commenting on the proposal by Johor Umno Youth information chief, Khalid Mohamad, that the government revive the construction of a new bridge to replace the Johor Causeway.
The project was scrapped 2006.

tunku : waiting for johor leaders to comment.

projek ini mungkin boleh diteruskan.tapi eloklah ditangguhkan dahulu.tunggu keadaan ekonomi dah reda barulah dikaji semula tentang pembinaan jambatan tersebut.

I believe a member of the Johor state assembly (Adun) had already made such a call earlier for the bridge to be built. If you mean johor leader as in Menteri Besar, well he is in Australia. Abdullah has set a good example for Ghani to follow! Current PM canceled or postpone, whatever you call it, the building of the bridge. I consider that as history, no point in condemning his ghastly mistake for not attempting to progress further what Mahathir started. Lets see what the incoming PM in waiting will do, that is more important. Will he overturn the decision of his predecessor?
Even if Najib, or whoever takes over the premiership come 2009, agree to continue with it I dare say that the bridge will not be built in the next ten years or probably even beyond 2020. It is not as easy as often lamented by Mahathir. The reason being the southern recalcitrant, the 51st state of USA! Somehow they want us to kow tow to their demands first...more sand, water at ridiculous price and ofcourse airspace for their pilots to play cat and mouse. Oops, one more the railway land at Tanjung Pagar!

Saya setuju dengan suka_aman. Projek ni memang perlu tapi rasanya keadaan sekarang masih belum stabil. Masih boleh lagi projek ini untuk ditangguh terlebih dahulu sehingga keadaan kembali reda.
