KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Wednesday said he was happy and glad that the protest demonstrations in Bangkok are over.
"It could not have come at a better time as today is also the 81st birthday of the Thai king," he said when met at Thailand's National Day Celebration organised in conjunction with the Thai king's birthday by Thai Embassy at a hotel here.
Dr Mahathir, who was the guest-of-honour, told reporters that he was confident that the Thai people would surely work harder together to bring glory, peace, harmony and prosperity to the country.
Asked to comment on the sacking of former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim from UMNO, he said:"Well, he is no longer an UMNO member like me... But he doesn't seem to be loyal to UMNO... So I suppose UMNO has the right to expel him."
"If you go against the party, you cannot expect to be in the party," he added.
Also present was his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.
