Mukhriz Defends Suggestion, Refuses To Withdraw Statement

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said he would not withdraw his statement on his suggestion for the government to create a single school system in the country.
Defending his suggestion, Mukhriz said he did not think that what he said was wrong as it was only a suggestion to strengthen racial unity in the country.
"I don't understand this withdrawal thing. When you've already said it, how can you withdraw it? I don't see that what I said was wrong as I touched on unity.
"Everyday, I hear people talk in the Dewan Rakyat about unity. It has only been just talk, mere rhetoric but not wanting to do anything about it.
"We should not be politicising important issues like unity, but there seems to be no solution that can bring about real unity among the people," he said.
Mukhriz was asked to comment on the objection from various quarters to his suggestion and they also urged him to withdraw his statement regarding it.
Mukhriz had suggested that all schools come under a single national education system with Bahasa Malaysia as the medium of instruction except for Science and Mathematics which should be in English, while pupils would also learn their mother tongue or opt for another language so that they could master at least three languages.
He believed the single school system could help realise the nation's aspiration of creating a more united multiracial society and preventing racial polarisation which had become worse of late.
He rejected claims that he had made the suggestion to fish for votes in his bid for the Umno Youth chief post in March.
"I'm just giving a suggestion...I don't have the power to make it a reality. It's up to the government whether to consider the suggestion," he said.

tunku : i support the idea as it is the best for all of us. everyone in one school. we learn about each other language and culture.then only there will be solid unity in this country.those who are opposing to this idea should not be talking about national unity as they don't walk the talk.

What school and system is not important. What is important is the teachers whom we place in the school produce Quality products.
Over years we had spent billions, through 100% Umno based education ministers, >absolute power to utilise tax payers money to spend and realise all the set vision.
While all eye opens and see the minority schools rotten, buildings collapsed and funded by local communities and charitity....
But the people had voiced their opinion through election. The wild fires continue to burn...unfair distributions of Tax payer money which did notproduce quality end products. We had many social problems, mat Rampit, drug addicts and...all statistically avail., which education systems that succeed and fail, all can be seen.

I came from the Poor system, for 40 years, I had many bumi friends, I helped many bumi friends to succeed in business...But i also see many other problems..mentality, mathematics and lack stretegic thinking in them. But we are very open minded. One should go beyond politics and go deep into the community to listen to find out the truth of our failed education systems. It is the teachers that makes a good Students, Not the type of SCHOOL systems.

We should focus on training the teachers, quality teachers with right mind and attitudes, not spending billions to build the HARDWARE. Many top guns benefits from all kind of ideals, but at the end, we carry all the social problems. Reversely, we had many dedicated teachers in both type of school systems, they sacrifice their life to teach and train good students for need of the work force.
We need to have smart and not so smart work force to fill in our society. Singapore can have all the smart students, but the also got many problems..No one work in MacDonalds, you see old people in Fast food chain, as the school systems produce the best and all the best.

If our unity systems, we would not have PKR, as we are of a nation fill with Political excitement.

Mukhriz, I wrote many to Tun during 1997..crisis. He listen to people feedback , he checks and read facts and he speaks when he had his fact right. Whether my opinion got publish or not is not important. But i speak the truth and for 40 years, I had mould many successful bumi business friends whom had done well in many fields. When they had family, surviving is so critical. Teach them a skill, and means to survive is so ever important priority for every POLITICIANs , ministers and educationists in this country. Slogans wouldn't works as blogger and informations are a click of a button in split seconds. Many people watch astro, and not local TV, aren't they not nationalists? We need to train people to be globalised and earn OPM from around the world, so we can live n feed families. Can work only 33 hours like Germans and can enjoy Lotussport cars on Plus Highway...

Sekolah nak asing2 macam mana nak adakan perpaduan? Kalau semua disatukan, ia satu strategi baik untuk semua bergaul dengan lebih baik. Cadangan ini patut difikirkan juga.

Yes I agree with Mukhriz. Why should he withdraw the statement? We are talking about Bangsa Malaysia. I bet that we will never be Bangsa Malaysia when there are still people born in this country can't even speak Bahasa Malaysia. Why? because of the existance of this Sekolah Cina and Sekolah Tamil. Yet they claim to be Malysian?

I totally agreed with Mukhriz. Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan, Chinese & Tamil should be abolished for betterment of our children future. More intergration in our society. More Malaysia we are regardless of our racial composition.

We need a leader like Mukhriz that would make this country more stronger regardless of our racial background.
