ALOR STAR: PAS Youth's proposal to implement an Islamic administrative system in Pakatan Rakyat states is totally unacceptable, said DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.
Lim said it was not in line with Pakatan Rakyat’s promise to uphold the secular concept.
“There should be no attempt to introduce Islamic state or hudud laws,” he said.
Lim, who is the Ipoh Timur MP, was responding to a proposal by PAS Youth vice-chief Azman Shapawi to implement Islamic administrative system in the Pakatan-governed states if PKR and DAP agreed to it.
Lim said the call raised questions as to whether the Islamist party would keep to its promises made when Pakatan was formed.
Asked about talk that signs of break up had emerged between component parties in the Opposition alliance, Lim said “talk will remain talk.”
“We are reaching 100 days where the Pakatan Rakyat state governments have shown the difference in tackling problems compared with the Barisan Nasional,” he said.
Kit Siang, who led a DAP delegation earlier to present a 12-point “mini” memorandum to Kedah Mentri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak, described the hour-long meeting with Azizan as cordial and fruitful.
“We brought up questions raised by the Chinese community during a recent dialogue with DAP leaders,” he said.
Lim added that the community was dissatisfied with reduction in the quit rent.
DAP deputy secretary-general Chong Eng said the number of Chinese local councillors had dropped from 38 during the Barisan administration in Kedah to 18 now.
“The Mentri Besar said he would look into increasing the number of Chinese councillors,” she said.
Other issues highlighted include the poor garbage collection system in Alor Star, bureaucracy in the civil service, unfriendly civil servants and fewer non-Malay civil servants in Kedah.
In Penang, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state government had not received any request from PAS to discuss plans to implement Islamic laws in the state.
“Neither has Penang PAS discussed with us plans to enforce Islamic laws nor has the state government received any request from them to meet us on the matter,” he told reporters.
tunku : either one is trying to fool their supporters or both are fooling their supporters.worst case scenario both pas and dap are great liars.if they can't come to a conclusion on this issue how will they survive.both their supporters will not bow down and the leaders are fooling them.
