Dr M: Balding son a thinker

ALOR STAR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad joked about his son Datuk Mukhriz who is balding, saying it was a sign that he was a deep thinker.
He also said Mukhriz was more hardworking than him.
On serious note, Dr Mahathir said he was confident Mukhriz would live up to his reputation.
“I hope he does not spoil my name,” he said in jest when addressing election machinery workers and supporters at Kandis Barisan Nasional operation centre in Jerlun.
A jovial Dr Mahathir said that he still had hair on his crown at 82 but his son, at 43, does not.
Later during a press conference, Dr Mahathir advised his son to take public woes and grouses seriously.
“He must also take care of the problems in his constituency. If elected, he must use his position as an elected representative to get as much (federal) aid as possible,” he said.

On Barisan’s chances, Dr Mahathir expressed confidence that the result would be much better than 1995 but not as good as 2004.
He also said Barisan’s performance dipped in 1999 because people were upset with him.
This year, he said the rakyat were generally upset about the rising cost of living.
On how many agencies he referred to when selecting candidates, Dr Mahathir said he listened to all, even to those on the ground.
Earlier in his speech, Mukhriz pledged to promote economic growth in Jerlun if the constituents gave him the mandate.
