Don't Expect "Buah Tangan" As Inducement To Vote

JULAU (Sarawak), March 3 (Bernama) -- The people should come out in full force to vote in the general election this Saturday without expecting any inducement, Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said today.
He said it was not right for them to expect "buah tangan" or monetary inducement to perform their democratic privilege.
"By expecting something in return, this is tantamount to money politics. This is against the country's election regulations," Salang told Bernama after a campaigning trip to Ulu Merurun today.
He said such an inducement was not only unhealthy but could be self defeating as it could be use as a basis to challenge the results through election petitions.
Salang said the people should view the election as an opportunity to obtain more development and progress in the next five years rather than for momentous and insignificant gain.
Salang is defending his Julau parliamentary seat for the third term and has been enjoying widespread support in the area.
"It shows the people are hungry for more development and progress, which to them only the BN can deliver," he said.
