Zakaria Deros replaced by daughter in-law
Khir Toyo To Defend Sungai Panjang State Seat
SHAH ALAM, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo will defend his Sungai Panjang state seat in this election, nailing speculation that he will be moved to a parliamentary seat.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk Noh Omar has been retained in his Tanjung Karang parliamentary seat, Information Ministry parliamentary secretary Noriah Kasnon in Sungai Besar and Datuk Mohd Zain Mohamad in Sepang.
Dr Khir, however, did not announce the candidate for the Selayang parliamentary seat currently held by MCA deputy president and Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy.
It was reported today that Chan may not contest in this election due to health reasons.
Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin has been renominated for the Shah Alam parliamentary seat while Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board chairman Datuk Markiman Kobiran would defend his Hulu Langat seat, Dr Khir, who is also Selangor BN chief, told a press conference.
Dr Khir said former Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Shafie Salleh would be replaced by Sulaiman Kabri in the Kuala Langat parliamentary seat, while Deputy Minister of Higher Education Datuk Ong Tee Keat has been retained in the Pandan parliamentary seat.
He said State Executive Councillor Datuk Ch'ng Toh Eng has been moved to the Klang parliamentary seat, replacing incumbent Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew, who is also parliamentary secretary to the International Trade and Industry Ministry.
MIC deputy president and Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk G. Palanivel would again vie for his Hulu Selangor seat, while Wanita MIC chief Datin Paduka Komala Krishnmoorthy would defend her Kapar seat, the country's biggest parliamentary constituency, and MIC Youth chief S.A. Vigneswaran would seek re-election in Kota Raja.
Dr Khir also announced the candidacy of Roslinda Abdul Jamil for the Pelabuhan Klang state seat, replacing incumbent Datuk Zakaria Mat Deros, who sparked a controversy for building a luxury mansion in Pandamaran without approval from the authorities.
Roslinda is Zakaria's daughter-in-law.
Dr Khir said Roslinda was picked for the suburban seat not because she was Zakaria's daughter-in-law but based on her service record in the state Puteri Umno and enjoyed wide grassroots support.
