ELECTION 2008: Kedah BN drops seven MPs, 13 assemblymen, gives Jerlun to Mukhriz
ALOR STAR, Thurs:
Kedah Barisan Nasional dropped seven MPs and 13 state assemblymen and named 19 new faces when it announced its list of candidates for the March 8 general election today.
Six of the new faces will contest parliamentary seats and the remaining 13, state seats, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said. Mahdzir is defending the Pedu state seat.
Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin, the incumbent MP for Merbok, will contest the Sungai Petani parliamentary seat, taking over from incumbent Datuk Dr Mahadzir Md Khir who is one of the MPs dropped.
The BN candidate for Merbok is Datuk Tajol Urus Md Zain, the deputy chief of the Umno Division there.
Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, son of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad speculated to contest the Langkawi parliamentary seat, is to be fielded in the Jerlun parliamentary constituency, taking over from incumbent Datuk Abdul Rahman Ariffin who has been dropped.
