Aman Malaysia Receives RM250,000 Donation, Clothing And Toys From MRCS
JOHOR BAHARU, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Aman Malaysia (Peace Malaysia) today received RM250,000, clothing and toys donated by the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) for the suffering Palestinian children and mothers in Gaza.
MRCS welfare services president Raja Zarith Sofia Sultan Idris handed over the money and items to Aman Malaysia coordinator Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir here.
Muhkriz said Aman Malaysia had only targeted RM200,000 for clothes and toys for the people in Gaza, adding the donation by MRCS should be emulated by others.
"I was told that Raja Zarith had personally bought the clothes and toys. This shows that someone's position in life is no obstacle when it comes to helping others.
"The money collected will be used to buy food in Cairo as it is cheaper than transporting them over there," he added.
Mukhriz, who is also Umno Youth Executive Council member, said he will be leading the Aman Malaysia team to Rafah on the Egypt-Gaza border to hand over aid to doctors manning 198 emergency clinics in Gaza.
"Some 85 percent of the 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza are depending on foreign aid," he added.
Aman Malaysia To Send Medical And Food Supplies To Gaza
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- A reconnaissance team from Aman Malaysia (Peace Malaysia) will leave for Cairo tonight to prepare the groundwork for the sending of medical and food supplies to Palestinians in Gaza over the weekend.
Dr Mohamed Kassim Abdul Rahim and his assistant Azizul Kamar Abdul Rahman, who have been given the responsibility of making the logistics preparations will leave for Cairo at 8.55pm while the nine-member main team led by Aman Malaysia coordinator Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir will head for Cairo on Thursday enroute to Rafah on the Egypt-Gaza border, a 300km overland trip, said Aman Malaysia secretariat spokesman Anas Hafiz Mustaffa.
Mukhriz, who is also Umno Youth International Relations and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Bureau chairman, said 1.5 million Palestinians had been deprived of food, medicine, fuel and water since Israel closed the border at Gaza in June, causing a human catastrophe.
Aman Malaysia launched the Gaza Humanitarian Fund on Jan 29 to collect donations to buy medical and food supplies to be distributed to Gazans by the Red Crescent Society.
