Unfair to criticise cops for not apprehending Raja Petra: Hishammuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: It is unfair to criticise the police for not apprehending Malaysia Today editor Raja Petra Raja Kamaruddin when he is in now in another country, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
"Do you want to police to kidnap him or use terrorist's tactics to get him?” asked Hishammuddin.
Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby Tuesday, Hishammuddin said the police had met with their counterparts, as had the Foreign Ministry, on the matter.
Asked whether Raja Petra could be extradited from United Kingdom, Hishammuddin said it would need co-operation from the UK police.
"They have their own position on this issue and we have to respect their position," said Hishammuddin.
On Monday, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin rapped the police for not being serious enough in apprehending Raja Petra.
He said Raja Petra was clearly seen in the open in London, based on Internet news reports of his appearance at a function there to launch the Friends of Pakatan Rakyat event on Sunday.
It was also reported that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said police had last year formally requested Interpol to issue an international red alert for the arrest of Raja Petra.
"Our request was turned down in January. We cannot just go into someone's country and arrest a wanted person," he said, adding that there were currently two arrests warrants issued locally against Raja Petra for his defamation and sedition cases.
