Apologise to "king" Lim

Apologise to Lim, SDO told

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has demanded a public apology from State Development Officer Nik Ali Nik Yunus for allegedly using rude words against Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng during a press conference.
Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mansor Othman said Nik Ali should not have uttered the words biadab (disrespectful) and dayus (coward) against Lim.
“We want him to retract his statement and tender a public apology to the Chief Minister. We do not need an SDO like Nik Ali in the state,” he told a press conference at Lim’s office in Komtar yesterday.
Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy said that under the civil servant code of conduct, no civil servant was allowed to make any public statement that could tarnish the government’s image without a written consent from the minister.
“In this context, it is clear enough that Nik Ali has breached the code of conduct and we are leaving it to the Federal Government to decide,” he added.
Ramasamy said Nik Ali was behaving like a politician rather than a civil servant, adding that “if he cannot behave here, he should go and misbehave in other states”.
Lim had criticised Nik Ali in the past few weeks about his roles in three projects – the arches at Botanical Gardens, the Penang Hill funicular train service and the alleged sand mining in Balik Pulau.
On Monday, Nik Ali hit back at Lim, saying that the Chief Minister was ignorant of the role of an SDO.
Yesterday, Lim again criticised Nik Ali for dragging state secretary Datuk Zainal Rahim Seman into the issue.
“The issue is between the two of us, don’t involve other officers by making baseless allegations,” he said.
It was reported in a Malay daily that Nik Ali had expressed his disappointment at Zainal Rahim for failing to advise Lim over the Penang Botanical Gardens issue.
State Gerakan chief Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan said Lim should have called Nik Ali to thrash out the problem instead of criticising the SDO.
By acting the way he did, Dr Teng said Lim was only trying to gain sympathy from the people.

tunku : who started this stupid thing first? it was lim who started it through the media, so why the SDO had to publicly apologise to "king" lim ? the deputy cm too brainless.under the code of conduct the government officer can't make any public statement that could tarnish the government’s image without a written consent from the minister but the cm is allowed to do anything he likes. like dr teng said, the moron cm should have called the SDO in the first place and sort matters out, not by having public spats. be a true leader, call the SDO and sort the matter out.

A Civil Servant cannot use a political party function to make a press statement. If civil servants do no not remain neutral this country will be ruled by only one party for the rest of our history. There are many Third World countries that are facing the similar problems because Civil Servants align themselves with the powers that may be.And I do not have to point out here where they stand in the global development index. It is an unhealthy sign and must be nibbed in the bud.

And, by the way, two wrongs do not make a right. Ramalx

My take is Guan Eng should protect the sanctity and dignity of the office of the Chief Minister of Pulau Pinang and should refrain himself from name callings against anybody, Civil Servants included whatever the circumstances.

Anyway, Guan Eng started the name calling first as usual, normally he gets away with it in Pulau Pinang being the CM there and all that, but this time he literally met buku dengan ruas and the Civil Servant in question gave as good as he gets. Good for him.

Diktator Guan Eng ini bak pepatah Melayu Kaduk naik junjung, sudah banyak lebih, tidak tahu dek untung kalau bapak dia bukan Lim Kit Siang jangan dia berangan jadi KM Negeri Pulau Pinanglah.
