Again KJ trying to be the champ.

Khairy: Don’t turn it into a racial issue

PETALING JAYA: The controversy involving unpaid foreign workers at the new palace construction site should not be turned into a racial issue, said Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said Senator Ezam Mohd Nor had blown the issue out of proportion when he accused Malaysiakini and The Star of being “anti-national institutions and against Istana Negara.”
“Highlighting the plight of these workers is not only to bring justice to the foreign workers but also to ensure that the contractor delivers a good job and the palace is built properly for the royal institution,” he said.
Khairy said if the reports had been inaccurate, the contractor should come forward and clarify the matter.
“If the contractor has paid the workers’ salaries on time, they should come forward and tell their story,” he said.
On Friday, Maya Maju Sdn Bhd project director Md Nizam Md Sheriff denied that many of the foreign workers at the construction site were not paid salaries.
However, he admitted that there were some workers who received their wages two weeks late.
Malaysiakini and The Star highlighted the plight of a group of foreign workers working on the RM800mil Istana Negara who claimed they were not paid three months’ wages.
Ezam urged the Home Ministry to probe Malaysiakini and The Star over the report.
He also lambasted the newspaper, saying he had reasons to believe there was a concerted smear campaign against the royalty and that it was giving prominence to Opposition MPs over the issue.

tunku : again kj trying to be the champ but look more like a chimp.this is not racial issue 'gedebe' kp of umno. this is an issue which malaysiakini and the star had blown the issue out of proportion. the management had given their pc on the issue. this 'gedebe' ketua pemuda always put his mouth at the wrong place and always against the tide. he should join the opposition soon.even his deputy, razali ibrahim does not agree with him especially the way he's attacking perkasa.

1. It's strange but NOT really unexpected when within a week a few incidents emerge, bringing with them veiled elements of racial inclinations. And suddenly in the midst of all these 'skirmishes' a character loomed into the foray, bringing with it accusations, words of defiance in challenging stance, absurd labellings, defensive assertations and invoking the use of a supposedly draconian Act !

2. It was the issue of a certain MCA Deputy Minister who had touched on a subject most sensitive to the Malays ; the MARA scholarship, that started it all. Not unexpected, PERKASA came to the front in defence of what is legally a right under the Federal Constitution. If the earlier statement had irked the Perkasa President, then an uncalled for intervention by the the UMNO Youth leader, 'generously' helped to inflame the situation. Worse still, the Youth leader whose leadership lately had been questioned by all and sundry, came out , scathingly attacking Perkasa's president with name-callings and ridiculous labellings ; ostensibly perhaps in defence of a colleague in the BN Youth movement. BUT while it was 'honourable' to defend 'a friend' ; he completely forgot that he had touched on a most sensitive issue most pertinent & important to the Malays which by simple deduction would deprive UMNO/BN of certain votes in the coming GE. To DS Najib, the said reaction would not be taken lightly ! Perhaps it is 'wise' of the UMNO leadership especially, to scrutinise ALL STATEMENTS made by the said leader lately and try to figure out if, and I stress 'if' , there are skeletons in the closet !!! Hints and insinuations of him having links to a certain opposition leader must therefore be taken seriously. There is a saying " The eyes are the windows of your souls" ; in this case perhaps " what you utter speaks well of what is your heart" So, beware of questionable characters in our midst !

3. Perhaps it was the uncalled for intervention by the said youth leader that further deteriorated the situation. Calling for the ISA to be invoked came from all involved
quarters and now the KDN would have its hands full to accomodate the 'demands' !!! The question being asked presently is, why suddenly actions want to be taken so speedily now when there were 'worse incidents' before that should have drawn the attention of the said authority !

4. Strangely, the Istana Negara issue has been blown out of proportion ; worse , politicians have willed upon themselves to be involved in something they know nothing about. Based on heresay and unfounded reports, they stormed into the issue with ridiculous demands for explanations but not without creating the oportunity to give the affair that racial slur which seems to be a favourite recipe for irresponsible politicians. As in the earlier case, that Youth leader expectedly or is it unexpectedly ?, must come into the picture. Surely what followed would be a tirade of statements that borders on assumptions, doubts, allegations and the such ! Also there would be that familiar clarion call of defence ! Without wanting to sound racial, I'm inclined to ask whether such involvement by those that seemed to be conscience-stricken, would be highlighted if Maju Maju is NOT a Bumi company ??? Figure it out my friends ! Again, I implore to those in the upper echelon of the UMNO hierachy to 'investigate' all statements made by their leaders, senior or junior, at least to determine their attitude and loyalty. Like they say " I smell a rat " !!! I quote someone , somewhere, sometime ago, " Trying to portray oneself as a champ could be construed as a diversion to other things bad ".
