Selangor Government Blames Media For Report On Uncontrolled Sand Mining Activities

SHAH ALAM, July 13 (Bernama) -- A State Assemblyman on Tuesday blamed the media for the report on uncontrolled sand mining in Bukit Changgang, Dengkil last Sunday.
Yaakop Sapari (PKR-Kota Anggerik) said the media report was incorrect because the sand mine was being run legally and managed by a state government subsidiary company, Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB).
"We also urge the relevant party to retract the statement and apologise to the State government.
"If they refuse to do so, I call on the KSSB to lodge a police report and sue the party concerned," he said during the winding up session of the supplementary development allocation 2010 at the State Assembly sitting Tuesday.
He also accused the media of being an agent to a certain political party which reported the mining activity which was purportedly aimed at toppling the current state government led by the opposition pact in Selangor.
However, Yaakop's statement referred to sand mining in the Olak Lempit area and not in Bukit Changgang as reported by the Media last Sunday.
The media report was made following the disclosure by state opposition leader, Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo on the uncontrolled sand mining activity when 20 hectares of land in Bukit Changgang, located about 50 metres from the Paya Indah Wetlands Recreation Park in Dengkil had been encroached into.

tunku : i agree with yaakop sapari, KSSB should make police report and someone should make report to MACC.let the authorities investigate in details all the sand mining activities in selangor.pakatan rep should not blame the media as they always "shouting" for press freedom and now they are telling the media to shut up to something that they don't agree or doesn't favour them.it is true that KSSB is "Korek Selangor Sampai Berlubang".click here and here.

Sand mining is no longer a problem. In The Star today a Environmental Expert/Cosultant has declared that the mining of sand has not affected the wetlands. Ramalax
