S’gor to spend RM15mil to counter ‘biased’ news
SHAH ALAM: Selangor will set aside RM15mil or 1% of the projected RM1.5bil 2011 budget to counter news that the Pakatan government deems is ‘biased’ in mainstream media.
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said the RM15mil would be used to put forward the “correct” information to the people of Selangor.
“It’s just RM15mil. If we consider the population of 5.2 mil in Selangor, this amount comes to RM3 per person or 15 sen per day.
“Our aim is to provide Selangorians with the right information that will enable them to make intelligent decisions,” he said after opening the 2011 State Budget dialogue.
Khalid also revealed that the state was looking into launching Radio Selangor in its bid to effectively reach out to the people and spread “correct” information.
“Radio Selangor can be created and this is allowed under state local council laws. It is a potential we are going to explore. We have TVSelangor and even though it is Internet TV, it receives one million hits per session,” he said.
The RM15 mil would go towards operating the state media that includes TVSelangor, the SelangorKini portal and SelangorKini tabloid, he said.
He said that the mainstream news reports on the state government were not balanced and the state needed to get the right information to the people.
He said some people were under the impression that the 20cu m of free water enjoyed by Selangor residents came from the Federal government.
“Worse still, in the recent hulu Selangor by-election, there were villagers there who didn’t know that the state government was under Pakatan.
“Some even said former Mentri Besar Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib was still the mentri besar,” he said.
About 300 state officers, senior officers with the states business arm and non-governmental organisations attended the two-day dialogue.
Several MPs and state assemblymen were also present.
Khalid said RM750mil would be set aside for administration purposes.
“It is a balanced budget and we will take two and half-months to prepare. We can’t get things cheaper. We will use the revenue earned to obtain the right price for the right value,” he said.
tunku : this is another way to rob the state's wealth legally like the sand mining issue. what rubbish that some villagers didn't know that the state is under pakatan.if they don't know that shows pakatan's government is not working.don't legalised your stupid act by just saying that the state only take rm3 per person for pakatan's propaganda.people know the truth of what is happening in Selangor.the only way for pakatan to counter it is by spreading lies.tomorrow, khalid will tell again oh we need rm 5.2million for so and so work and the amount only comes to RM1 per person.

kesian rakyat selangor, asyik kena tipu saja..huhuhuhu. tukar kerajaan pru nanti.
RTM has expense more than that just to ensure that Federal Government retain their power. RTM only know to make a story about the weaknesses of the opposition. So there is nothing wrong for the Selangor government to allocate the money in order to let the people know about what they are doing.
Buat apa nak kesian dengan rakyat Selangor? "They asked for it".
Sekarang mereka terpaksalah terima padah akibat mengundi PR.
phen,
federal gomen lain la, they got budget for ministry tapi ini state gomen, lagi duit tidak ada , mau kasi jahanam lagi 15juta tu.
Aisay Phen, how many times you watch RTM and can come up what that kind of sweeping statement? Don't waste public money lah PR, after all we already knew that there are not much to show for the past two years! Please use the RM15 million for the water management lah!
