KOTA BAHARU, July 30 (Bernama) -- MCA's effort to ensure more Chinese students be admitted into public higher learning institutions has paid off, as 92 per cent of top Chinese students in the SPM and STPM examinations this year succeeded in furthering their studies.
Party vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said this showed the struggle by MCA for Chinese students' education had been successful through the close cooperation of all component parties in the Barisan Nasional.
"The number is higher than last year when only 80 per cent of the students found places in the public universities. We have done this quietly compared to the opposition who only made noise but did nothing," she told reporters after the opening of the Kelantan MCA delegates' meeting, here Friday.
The meeting was opened by MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek. Also present were party secretary-general Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha and Youth head Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Dr Ng said some of the top performing students were also successful in getting popular courses.
Dr Ng, who is also Tourism Minister, said with that, the problem which was raised by Chinese students each year had been resolved.

how many percent of malay top student enter public universities and what have UMNO done about it.
It is a story of the glass half full or half empty. For those who have half full glasses in the BN semuanya ok. But for those who are holding half empty glasses semuanya not ok.
As envisaged by our founding fathers, when they accepted the principles of a democratic Parliamentary System of Government, all citizens must have the opportunity to work through the system to occupy the highest office in the land.
I hope that God will give the wisdom to my leaders to do at the beginning what they will be forced to do unsuccessfuly in the end.Rama
When can we stop talking in racial numbers ? If more chinese students get into public universities, then most probably less from other races would enter then. The other parties would then make some noise. It is a vicious cycle.
Read in the Star of last thursday (but not in the online version) that it will cost RM 90,000 to bring down the 2 arches in the Penang Botanical gardens which cost RM 150,000 to put up. What has the tourism minister have to say ?
Dear CPL,
During my time in the civil service the person who mmade the decision to build the two arches will be surchaged. RAMA
