Some do’s and don’ts on polling day

PETALING JAYA: No one is allowed to wear, hold or carry any form of clothing, head covering, ornament, rosette, water bottle or umbrella showing the symbol of any political party within 50m of the polling station.
Election Commission secretary Datuk Kamaruzaman Mohd Noor said the commission’s booths were erected to replace party booths (pondok panas) for the purpose of assisting voters to check their names and their polling stations (streams) in the Electoral Roll.
According to Election Offences Act, 1954, Sect. 26 (1) (d), Kamaruzam said that no person could use their residence, shophouse, or any premise as an office or a centre for any political activity within 50m from the polling centre on polling day.
“No person is allowed to check the identity or names of electors in the Electoral Roll, solicit or influence electors on their choice of voting, or to wait or loiter within 50 metres from the limit of the polling centre.”
