Not only is Kedah Barisan Nasional confident of wresting back Kedah, it predicts a two-thirds majority win this time round.
"We think it is possible for us to win 25 seats based on the general
sentiment of the people and the hard work put in by our candidates
during this campaign period," state Barisan chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah told reporters.
He denied that Barisan was being overconfident of winning the Chinese votes which has been perceived as going against Barisan.
"We
acknowledge that there are certain quarters in the community who are
disgruntled with Barisan, the same goes for the Malay community. "But
the Chinese in Kedah have had enough of PAS over the past five years, I
don't think they will make the same mistake this time," said Bashah.
He
dismissed the huge turnout of Chinese at a DAP dinner attended by DAP
adviser Lim Kit Siang on Monday as a sign of strong support for the
opposition. "They went out of curiosity. Even Umno members like to
attend PAS ceramah to listen to what the other party has to say," said
Bashah.
He urged the Chinese community to give their votes to
Barisan and promised that their problems would be addressed by the party
after the elections. Barisan won 14 of 36 state seats in the 2008
election, with the rest going to PAS (16), PKR (two), Independent (two)
and DAP (one).
