Large turnouts at Pakatan Rakyat ceramah are not an indication that Opposition parties enjoy huge support from the rakyat.
MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said she personally knew of people who merely went to these ceramah to hear what the speakers had to say.
"In
fact, I have my officers in the Tourism Ministry who actually tell me
that they sometimes attend these ceramah to hear what the Opposition has
to say.
"At the end of the day, they will judge if Barisan
Nasional has delivered or if the promises being made by Pakatan are
truly achievable," she said during a visit to the Lobak candidate Titan
Ho Kok Yew's service centre.
Dr Ng, who is also Tourim Minister, said Pakatan ceramah also attracted large crowds as the speakers sensationalised issues.
"The
speakers claim they will get rid of corruption if elected to power. But
they will never say that one of the main aspects of the Prime
Minister's government transformation programme was to check corruption,"
she said.
Dr Ng also said these speakers would also not touch on
the number of individuals charged for corruption by the Malaysian
Anti-Corruption Commission.
"All I want to say is that we in
Barisan are not frightened of these so called mega ceramah as we have
serviced our constituents and fulfilled our promises to the rakyat," she
said.
She said there was also a sizeable percentage of voters
who were fence sitters, and they would determine the outcome of the May 5
polls.
"This silent majority has read our manifesto and will know who to give their vote to," she said.
