Uniform Islamic law in all states

PUTRAJAYA: Newly-appointed minister Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom will seek an audience with the Malay Rulers to discuss the implementation of uniform Islamic laws in all states.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of religious affairs would also be meeting state religious councils on the same issue beginning next month.
Jamil Khir said the meeting would entail discussions on Islamic laws which had been endorsed and approved by the Rulers Council.
“I am looking forward to the meeting and to fruitful discussions with the Sultans and also with the state religious council officials,” he told reporters after chairing the Islamic Consultative Council meeting Monday.
This meeting had also agreed to the establishment of a co-operative for mosques to further strengthen the institution.
“We have yet to determine the mosques involved in this but I am confident the idea will be well received.
“It will be implemented once we have the module from the National Cooperatives Organisation of Malaysia (Angkasa) which is assisting us in realising this dream,” he said.
Jamil Khir said the cooperative would operate like other cooperatives and its revenue would be channeled to the mosques’ management committees.

tunku : this thing has been long overdue. it is not convenient for the states to have different Islamic ruling/laws and has been difficult for the muslims especially involving 2 parties from different states.hope that all the Sultans and Rulers will agree to it.
