The government will review the policies on Islam including Islam Hadhari introduced by former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to ensure the effectiveness of their implementation.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Maj-Gen (R) Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom said he was entrusted with the task by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak.
Jamil Khir said he would also review the salary scale and allowances of Kafa (obligatory religious requirement) teachers and supervisors under the Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
"Kafa teachers and supervisors are important in nurturing kids early which would contribute towards human capital development," he told reporters after opening Kafa Teachers and Supervisors Conference at Pengkalan Chepa here today.
The government has allocated RM221 million for Kafa salaries and allowances, and programmes this year, he said, adding that the allocation would be disbursed through Jakim.
He said Jakim had also approved RM2 million for Kafa teachers and supervisors' training programmes and RM340,000 to procure teaching aids for Kafa classes.
Jamil Khir said Kelantan which boasted 6,194 Kafa teachers, 15 supervisors and 144,439 students had been receiving the highest Kafa allocation among states.
He said RM37.2 million had been allocated to Kafa in Kelantan this year, an increase of 1.5 per cent from last year. -- BERNAMA
tunku : it is high time for the government to rule out Islam hadhari as till today it's still confusing the people especially the Muslims.i think the government should introduce the Muslim hadhari(progress) concept instead of Islam hadhari.Islam is already perfect.
